Working here on solving how to modify drum machines, basically to take out the sequencers and use the DAW's sequencer (piano roll) instead.

Maybe there are workarounds? Ways to leave the ensembles as they are, but still have them function like drum synths without their own sequencer?

Attached are the before and after pictures for Aerobic, I just deleted the sequencer and a macro from the master section, and I first tried the sel. gate and single note gate, because the idea is to assign a MIDI note to each drum synth, but the only gate that works is MIDI>gate.

I don't know if I am on the right track, any ideas?

I know at least one of Martin Brinkmann's sequencers uses a very straightforward internal sequencing/external MIDI set-up that **should** be quite straightforward to implement, but I'm blowed if I can find which one it is.

Will keep looking and report back.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea.

I'll start trying different sequencers, maybe it will be easier to replace the sequencers in Aerobic etc than to take them out. Then if one of the sequencers just plays the drum hit once, and returns to the beginning of the sequence, that should work. I might even be able to do that with Aerobic's native sequencer, now that I think of it.

I'll continue to experiment and troubleshoot and report back.

    Update:

Organizing Aerobic's sequencer so that it plays one drum hit for each Midi Note is quite a chore, but its possible.

For a six part drum kit, I''ll have to create six different snapshots, one for each drum hit, and set up the sequencer for each one so that it loops only one drum hit, and then set the loop dial all the way up, so that the drum hit does not repeat.

So thats not a great workaround, but at least its possible.

I might just figure out where in the ensemble to stick som Midi Gate macros, I've tried about twenty different things so far, what can you do?

If I make any progress I'll be sure to post it up.

Maybe, I'm wrong, it's been a while I used Aerobic but I think you can do what you want straight away.
Take a look at the bottom right side of the ensemble. It should be some set up to do for using Aerobic with external Midi.
