If I make my filters, and filter mixer mono I could probably save about 40% cpu!

I remember doing it before and it seemed to work ok, but what is the downside of mono filters and poly envelopes EVC to mono?

not sure what you want to do and I may not be giving the best answer but by reducing it to a mono filter you are also processing a mono voice. Yes this saves CPU but might not be what you want depend on what you are building.

It might be better to look for other places to reduce the CPU is it is high.

I'll do it and see if there are any problems. Because my synth takes 26% cpu with everything switched off.

A question: I'm using a 3.2 P4HT proc, how much of an improvement will a dual-core be? I know they can be easily overclocked?

The easiest way to reduce CPU in a synth is to reduce the number of voices. If you are using FX place them after the voice combiner and make them mono. Normally I will add the amp Voice combiner right after them amp envelop, everything after that is set to mono.

I went from a 3GHz P4HT desktop with 1.5GB RAM, WinXP, to a dual core t9600 (2.8GHz) laptop running WinXP with 4GB RAM. I know XP can't address anything like 4GB, but I was surprised at the improvement I got when I switched. I'm still running Cubase SX2, which isn't dual-core compatible, and even that seems to be twice as powerful now. I can't be bothered to upgrade my software now :)

I think it might be impossible to have a mono filter envelope or a poly filter envelope that feeds a mono filter.

There a few anomolies but one is that if you press and hold a note then press and hold another note the new note will trigger the envelope for both notes and not just the last note.

It's just not possible to have a mono filter envelope or a poly filter envelope that feeds a mono filter, in a poly synth.:(

Immense. However, you'll get a little more life out of your P4 as far as Reaktor goes if you turn HT off; Reaktor and P4 style HT don't mix.

Maybe a little OT, but can you elaborate on this a little more. I noticed that on my Dual core Reaktor uses stand-alone one cpu core. So in my opinion a 3 Ghz single core has still some advantages. Or am I missing something?

It's the architecture. A modern processor's architecture's much more efficient per CPU cycle than the P4s were. Most people I know who went from a P4 to a dual core are seeing performance boosts running on one core of at least 50%, if not greater.

That's me, but I saw gains of more like 100%.
