I just purchased Komplete 8. Loving all the sounds, but it seems like there's only a handful of guitar sounds (as opposed to several hundred synth sounds). I know Guitar Rig can model amps, but are there any other options for actual guitars?

This is an awkward question to respond to. Imagination and technology is the limit on a synth because it is 100% unnatural. A guitar is an instrument that produces sound by twanging on strings. There is only so much that you can do before it becomes a trigger for synthesized sounds. At that point you might as well use a synth. Guitar Rig includes some effects that do venture into the synth realm.

You will never see a number of sounds equaling that of synths. It is just the reality of what defines the two instruments. There is a limit to both but many more possibilities with a synth.

Are you looking for more presets? Specific simulated amps? Aside from numbers alone what is missing that you would like to see?

The only essential pieces that are missing in my view are a Univibe and Leslie speaker effect. I am not thinking of modulating stereo. A Leslie produces a specific sound when a guitar is played through it. Both are unavailable in GR at this present time.

    What would you suggest?

    Hi Ampy,

I love all the Guitar Rig sounds, and i'm excited to dive into those in the near future. Overall though, i was just hoping there'd be more pre-sets. The "akkord" guitar in Komplete sounds amazing to me, and i was thinking that if they could get guitar sound THAT great, they'd put in more than just a couple presets.

Don't overlook dropping Kontakt's effects in the Kontakt mixer inserts to change the sound. There distortion effects, flangers, chorus, reverbs amp sims etc etc and cabinet emulations including the Leslie rotating speaker.

If you are serious about guitar sounds there are a lot of third party guitar libraries for Kontakt that are worth checking out. There are lower cost acoustic and electric options from Indignus, for example $50 for their Torch Electric Guitar which has a good strum engine and solo mode and makes excellent use of Kontakt's effects. If you have a bit more cash Orange Tree products are really worth checking out. Their Evolution Electric Guitar is the business at $179.

There are stereo modulation effects but these do not produce the distinct sound of a guitar played through a Leslie speaker cabinet.
