Most Sound files (aif, wav) not loading into Reaktor ensembles

I've been testing out various sampler ensembles from the user library and I am having a bit of problems loading audio files into them. When I click "Add" and get the window to browse for the samples, most of them are grayed out. I have samples in various formats: aiff, wav, mp3. So far I haven't found an mp3 that would load (not surprising) but the thing that surprises me is that most of my aiff files are grayed out. The very few that are not usually do not load. If I attempt to load them, it says that it failed to load the file.

I was under the impression that Reaktor supported a wide variety of audio files. So far it appears that it more-or-less supports wav and that it 1% of the time supports aiff. Could someone tell me what I'm missing? What format problems or other issues could be causing these files not to be recognized by Reaktor? These are files that read with no issues in every other audio app I have.

what bit depth are you wav and aiff files?

could you upload a short file here that does not work.

and btw, mp3 files won't load into Reaktor as you realize.

Thanks, when I get home I'll upload a couple of files. I'm at work right now so I don't have access to them.

I had a feeling mp3 didn't work, although I remember reading somewhere (obviously erroneous) that it did (and it sure would be nice, but hey, maybe next version).

Ok I figured one thing out but not the other.

First, I've realized that Reaktor is entirely dependent on file extensions to let it know you even have an audio file. Most of the aiff files it would show as gray in file select had no file extensions.

The other thing I found is that so far the aiff files that are not gray but give an error on trying to add them to Reaktor's sample set are all 24 bit (most of my sounds are 16 bit). Is this the problem do you think? Does anyone know for a fact if Reaktor doesn't support that bit depth and if not, which bit depth is preferable? I am guessing 16 bit is mostly going out of style now.
    ---
I saved one of the 24 bit files as a 16 bit file and it works fine now.

I guess just stay away from 24 bit audio with Reaktor ?

24 Bit should be okay if they have a sample rate of 44,100 - well it has just worked for me.

in the past i have noticed that Reaktor needs correct file extensions. so if an actual aiff file has been saved as a wav, Reaktor won't like it.

These it definitely did not like. They work fine when converted to 16 bit but even with the correct file extension they will give an error when added. Not the end of the world, but I would honestly think Reaktor's import engine would be a bit smarter.

I loaded it into Audiofile Engineering's 'Sample Manager' (which is somewhat strict as to file format) and it did indeed identify the file as 'corrupt, but repairable'...which I did. It did not seem to have a proper 'IFF'...that seems to generally indicate a 'Big Endian/Little Endian' swap (Google it) which often happens between PC's and Mac apps and their translation libraries (file order is reversed within container).

Bottom line...original file was 'hinky' but fixable, app miliage on these kinds of files may vary ;-)

Boing loaded into Kontakt 5 and Battery 4 with no problems - but yes there was an error with Reaktor.

re-saving the sample in Peak - without changing anything but its name, i added a 2 - cured the issue with Reaktor.

    Interesting...

I decided for now not to buy Reaktor anyways. I was strongly leaning towards getting Komplete 9 as my next purchase but too many little issues here and there for my liking. Absynth has some strange behavior that I didn't like despite how much I liked the synth itself. I opted for Alchemy instead which I have been loving and will import any sound I throw at it no problem and can do all the things I would have wanted Reaktor for anyways, even though they're very different programs, obviously. Maybe somewhere down the line I'll still get it. I appreciate your help you :D

How are you able to try out "various sampler ensembles from the user library" without owning Reaktor?

    LOL

    Ever heard of a DEMO?

    Jesus ****ing Christ /smh

Sowari: the only thing suspicious here is how a forum moderator for NI could not know that the Reaktor demo is fully functional and you can try out whatever ensembles your heart desires.

still there is no way to download whatever ensembles your heart desires from the user library without owning reaktor. So after getting help from others without deserving it (in case of illegally obtained UL ensembles) you insult them. This is not only suspicious, this is stupid, sorry.

Factually untrue. If there were no way of doing it, how did I do it? The demo lets you use ensembles from the user library. Know about what you speak before you make ridiculous accusations.

Your stupidity is on par with your paranoia.

I don't OWE it to anyone here to buy a program based on the performance of the demo. If you don't want to answer questions, then don't answer them. Accusing me of doing something illegal when I have done nothing of the sort is pathetic.
    ---
Btw, I reported everyone's post who accused me of doing anything illegal. As an NI product owner, I find all of your bizarre paranoia disconcerting for a support forum.

It's interesting to note that you didn't become so suspicious until after I said I preferred another product. Your vindictiveness is transparent and ridiculous. I would put all of you on ignore, but I want to be able to monitor whether you make any other outrageous accusations against me, which will also be reported.

    nobody accused you of anything.

they simply asked how you had access to the user library. as many of us never tried the demo before buying or did so a long time ago we may not be aware of the logistics. i too thought that only registered owners of reaktor could gain access to the library.

in short, it was your inflammatory response to a simple question that escalated this thread.

there are a number of points to be made here.

stratoculture666's status is that of a Forum Member not Product Owner. NI Product Owners often use a different email address to register on the User Forums and therefore will not be 'seen' as a Product Owner. so stratoculture666 might indeed be a 'Product Owner.

as a 'Product Owner' stratoculture666 will be able to use his/hers NI serial number to access all the User Libraries whether he/she owns Reaktor or not.

because i am a bit funny that way, i would prefer people to use the correct terminology as it makes things clearer so if 'Reaktor Player' was used - it would be clearer. but in the download area the word 'demo' is used for the 'Player' version of Reaktor.
