So the samples included with the maschine are really good, I feel they are a little too much on the digital sounding side so was thinking that sing MPC's samples may be a god move. I know there are tons of MPC's samples around and was wondering if anyone has been doing this and how they felt about it

Actually, Suicide Server posted a video on him doing FX with Maschine in the video thread, he used MPC5000 samples from the factory library for it and it turned out pretty good.

Just to be sure, is this a discussion why a sample sounds better when played by an MPC than the same sample played by a virtual sampler?

No, he's asking if it would be a good idea to use MPC samples with Maschine

He thinks, that Maschine's Sample Library sounds too digital, compared with the MPC Sample library which sounds more natural.

Natural meaning instruments other than synthesizers (guitars, horns, organs, flutes, harps, vibraphones etc)?

Wow.. Seems like you're really not getting it.
He means sounds like drums, instruments etc. Which are supposed to sound natural, but sound too digital from the library, compared to real instruments.

So NI should try some other sound providers?

Maybe? I don't know, since my maschine is on the way, but not yet here :(
But what about Timbaland, Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, Akon (Convict)
    Would be quite nice :D

Lol sorry for the confusion but Blizzard has it right...I have seen mention of people also feeling the NI samples were a little on the digital sounding side. Just throwing this out there for discussion to see what people are thinking and anyone using MPC samples

Good samples do make a difference. It does not matter if it is from an MPC. But the samples are only half the story. All samplers don't play back the same sample the same. There are differences in how the sound engine calculates the math and tricks used to lower CPU/memory usage with a trade off in quality rounding errors etc.

Even with good samples the Maschine as well as Battery have a very cold digital sound. It is not warm sounding by any stretch no matter what samples you run through it. I always hated this about battery and was suspicious from the demos that Maschine would have that cold "NI" sound. Unfortunately , my suspicions are correct.

I purchased MOTU BPM and not only is the sample library top notch, the sound engine is wonderful. Using my own samples confirmed this. With no effects engaged the samples sounded full and warm and the high end was clear and detailed. Maschine and Battery is not able to replicate this sound regardless of the sample content. The MOTU filters are nice too. Too bad for Maschine as I think it is unlikely that NI are going to rewrite the sample engine.

I'd like to hear the difference between BPM and Maschine/Battery. And I'm curious if this difference can be compensated by EQing or using an effect plug-in like PSP VintageWarmer.

That's a very good idea, we should choose a pattern and then run it through a MPC5000, a Maschine and through the MOTU BPM, and compare the results, to see if there's really a difference.

That would be a good idea, the PSP warmer idea is good as well. I have tried basic EQ'ng and don't feel that gets it done

If I ever get my copy of Maschine I plan to use self-created samples from my record collection.

    Nothing like King Vinyl!

Luv Maschine controller but BPM warmer (truth hurts)

I love my Maschine but, I also have BPM. As hard as it is to understand what B-Righteous is saying, HE'S RIGHT! The NI samples are VERY DIGITAL and COLD, while on the other hand the BPM samples are very warm, creamy, thick, mastered and pierce through a mix. Unless you've heard BPM or have tried out a friends it's hard to explain the difference on a forum website. The attraction to the sound of either NI or BPM is probably based on the genre of music you are producing. NI is more for TRANCE, AMBIENT and DANCE oriented producers. THe BPM samples were MASTERED by PROFESSIONAL HIP-HOP ENGINEERS! The samples are ready for a record RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! That's the HONEST TO GOD TRUTH! I have tried to put PSP vintage warmers on the NI samples just like everyone else. There was no substantive difference. On the other hand I have put NI synthetic drums through MASCNINE and through BPM. When played through BPM SONICALLY I sound like DR. DRE! It's hard to believe the difrence until you EXPERIENCE it. I know people will say that it's PSYCHO-SEMATIC-ACOUSTICAL rubash but it's not MENTAL. I don't work for MOTU! I own a MASCHINE and wouldn't part with it regardless of no MIDI-OUT but the BPM samples are SONICALLY BETTER. Check out the FORUMS about music production and you will see a lot of people agree. Now, BPM has a lot of problems with MIDI cc's ect but the samples are excellent! Don't BOO me you guys I'M STILL DOWN WITH THE MASCHINE (just look at my name) The goal here is to enlighten the community before you spend your hard earned money! BPM samplez and MASCHINE CONTROLLER a match made in HIP-HOP heaven!

Makes you wonder though if BPM adds something to the original sample like a psychoacoustic enhancer (Vitalizer/Ultrafex etc, nothing mental ;)).

    @Mr. MuhSheen

Can you provide some audio samples for comparison?
