You WILL be able to edit effects created initially in MPC Standalone mode in the MPC Software.

@JAHROME : Hi,I've watched almost any video I could find about mpc 2.0, but I didn't hear anybody talk about auto bpm detection of imported clips/audio tracks.
Do you have to enter the bpm of every imported loop or is it automatically detected?
Or do you have to use the from bpm function?

And once again thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions!
    Much appreciated!

BPM is automatically detected when an audio file / loop is imported for the first time. The From BPM function is a legacy MPC function which calculates tempo using sample length, the user dialing in the # of beats, as well as adjusting Tune.

@JAHROME if I get this I dont plan on using the mpc software, so my question is will there be an option to bounce to stems or wav files from the hardware?

I would be very remiss of me not to point out the MPC-X and Live will be far more capable in controller mode using the MPC Software than in standalone mode.

But to answer your question, yes...you can bounce stems in standalone mode:
    1. Tap the [folder icon] at the top of the touch screen

    2. Tap [Export]

This opens the Export menu where you can choose the export file format (wav, MP3, sample rate, bit deph, etc) and the destination where you want the stems to be saved.

I thought bar the vst support; they the standalone mode is the same as controller; as Akai has made a big who ha about the units running the full mpc 2.0 software

There's also the audio track limit in standalone, along with the difference in resources (e.g., RAM).

They are the same with some caveats. There are features that are GUI only such as drag n drop. There are currently no keyboard shortcuts for standalone mode that I am aware of.

The hardware workflow / operation of these new MPCs are exactly the same in standalone and controller mode. But you can't compare an Xeon E5 processor that is in my Mac to what is in the MPC hardware. This is partly what I mean by far more capable. Obviously there is CPU and RAM limits to what you can do in standalone mode. And because of this...users shouldn't be surprised that there will be features that the GUI may receive that won't be possible in standalone mode.

It would be idiotic and a disservice to MPC users to limit the MPC Software / GUI in order to claim standalone mode has the same feature set.

On that note @JAHROME, it sounds like it would be best to keep the Renaissance in the Studio and get the Live for Travel, moving around, rather than getting the X. Is that your opinion? (Does sound real feasible and cost effective to me)

Sold my MPC Ren a long time ago...I am a Touch user and haven't looked back.

I can't give anyone advice on what is cost effective for them. The MPC-X will be on my desktop and will never leave the studio. Once you try out the X, it will be hard took at the Ren the same way. It is pretty much an updated Ren with standalone capabilities. The X addressed the things I didn't like about the Ren to include the display and Qlink implementation.

The MPC Live, if I decide to keep one, will be a mobile set-up.

Minor gripe for me with the Ren is the transport controls being on the right. I prefer them on the left but I guess with pedal it doesn't matter. Does it support a foot pedal to kick off recording?

The transport being on the right is Roger Linn's original design. Only the MPC 2000 and 2000XL have them on the left.
*Note - I am fully aware RL has nothing to do with MPCs since the MPC 2000 and thinks the owner of the Akai brand is an ass hole...

I prefer them on the left because that's my natural inclination. I didn't see the foot pedal inputs in the pics on sweetwater so I guess that's a no on that one. Can I connect via midi and map manually?

Yes, if you are using an MPC Controller that has foot pedal inputs..

? I'm talking about the MPCX and MPC Live specifically, you know what everyone on this thread is discussing. Maybe clarify what you mean. As far as I can tell looking at the pics on Sweetwater neither the Live or X have foot pedal inputs.

Unless you mean I have to have like an MPK or something like that.

Maybe Pay Pal me a few dollars for giving everyone the low-down on these new MPCs....joking but a lot of truth is said in jest.

My response is accurate. If you use an MPC Controller with foot pedal inputs than you can assign transport functions to the pedals. MPC-X and MPC Ren has foot pedal inputs. The MPC Live and Touch do not.

Okay. That makes more sense. So those inputs are on the front of the unit, looks like FS1 and FS2? And no one is gonna send you money cause most folks on here are too broke from buying expansion packs.

I'm not sure if this was already answered but , does anybody know if it's possible to connect a generic midi controller to the mpc live, via usb or standard midi and assign it's knobs to the MPC-Live's Q-Link controllers and do this while not connected to the computer.
I know you can connect a midi controller to the unit, but specifically can you assign a box of knobs to the unit, effectively giving you the same kind of control that the mpc-x gives you with it's banks of knobs???
