Perhaps this question fits the "faint hope" category, but you never know.

I am running PG Music Power Tracks Pro 12 and Bandstand 1.0.3. Coming out of my laptop (Vista, 2GB ram) I go into an M-Audio Firewire Solo Box.

I have split my MIDI drums to individual tracks.

The M-Audio box has four outputs (two stereo pairs, one pair is 1/4" balanced, the other is SPDIF).

The laptop has the usual 1/8" out.

The end result I am looking for is to be able to send my bass drum and snare to different outputs than the rest of my mix, so that I can EQ and mix them in real time in a club situation.

The sequencer can send individual tracks to individual ports, but Bandstand seems to have only one, inseparable stereo port.

I have tried to load a second instance of Bandstand, but it tells me that the outputs are "not connected".

I think the bottleneck is with Bandstand.

So the simple question is this -- can Bandstand (in either plugin or standalone mode) send individual drum channels to two of the the four ports on my M-Audio box.

My answer so far is no it cant, but perhaps someone has come up with a workaround. I am willing to buy another sequencer (Sonar for example) if that is the issue.

    Thanks.

    hi there.

im sorry i cant help you.
i am just about to buy bandstand and was literally coming here to post this very question before I buy it...

It would be really nice to be able to route different midi tracks within BandStand to different outputs....

But if that is not possible, opening up multiple instances of Bandstand within the sequencer and assigning each instance to a different output - now that would be an essential MINIMUM here!

can anyone help and throw some light on Nels' question here please?

just came across this other post

    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57136

this guy is using SOnar and is getting multiople instances of Bandstand and assigning each one to different outputs...

i think his post also confims that no you cant send different tracks to different outputs within the same instance. which is a bummer :(

but personally all this means is I will load at most three instances - one for drums, one for bass and one for all the rest. and usually probably only two - leaving drums and bass together... but im just making backing tracks for live use so dont need maybe as much detail as you...

final problem then would be, how many instances can you load simultaneously? is it a HUNGRY program? sorry to hijack your thread but i think im also answering your stuff here too right?

as for your MBox situation, maybe it is your sequencer. or maybe your hardware. i would try with a demo version of cubase or something before buying a new sequencer. i dont undertsand - what is your current sequencer that you use.?

    Hey Doezer,

I'm currently using PowerTracks Pro by PG Music. But just as in my taste in beer, I have little brand loyalty -- happy to switch if I need to.

Thanks for the link. I had actually seen that one and that inspired me to try more than one instance. My problem with that route is that when I load an instance of Bandstand inside PowerTracks, it will not give me access to the output routing menu in Bandstand. Bandstand as a VSTi appears as nothing but a one-size-fits-all midi module. So yes, perhaps its my sequencer.

I'm going to give Sonar Home Studio a try. I bought the entry level Music Creator 3 software last year, so that entitles me to upgrade to Sonar, which I will do.

I'm going to be off line for a week or so. If the current snowstorm here in Ottawa lets up today, I'm heading for a warmer place for bit today. I'll report on my success with Sonar when I get back.

On your "hungry" questions, I guess we can find out by looking in Windows to see what system resources are being used. Its worth a look for sure. It may not be the program that is hungry so much as the samples that it loads. So the real question (which I think we are both asking) is how much overhead does the core engine require.

Just a moment for a brief lament -- I've been using sequencers since the early days of the Mac Plus. Why are we still running into these issues?

End of lament -- resumption of problem solving.

    Cheers,

    Mike
