just to catch up on my own learning here. (sorry)

    FACT:
kore player (free edition) is a single layer player. you can load DAW vstplugin on this as much as you want for each track you are recording. simple , done!

    FACT?:
kore 2 software , being that it can do multi sound layered at once, CAN it also act as a vstplugin on multiple calls from a DAW?

    for example:
    step 1:
I have 4 sounds layered in a kore 2 software sound I have called up from my DAW. assign those to a channel and record away my midi.
    step 2:
ok for some reason those 4 layered sounds was not rich enough for my blood so I load up 4 more sounds in kore 2 player and want to add those events on track 2.

    CAN i do this?

    thanks in advance!

    Which DAW?

    Hello

I think the answer is yes but which DAW are you using?

I'm in Cubase 5 Essentials and quickest way for me to have 8 sounds running off one midi channel would be to load them all in a single instance of Kore (on a single Instrument Track). If you have the full version of Kore it will play anything you can call up in your Kore player.

My PC would likely complain a bit about CPU load - 8 sounds at once, ouch - especially if any of them are big memory Kontakt sounds. I'd probably have to record the track using one or two sounds and then copy it to new tracks and load the sounds in new instances of Kore. Might end up with eight tracks, 8 different instances of Kore and having to use the Freeze function on some of the tracks to get it playing.

(Non Cubase 4/5 users - Freeze track is like when you have to mix down / render a track to a stereo wave to free up CPU and RAM - only they have a single button that does it all for you which you can click again to undo as necessary - takes a few seconds but quicker than manual render to stereo and deleting the VST tracks - and much quicker to reload them to make changes).

    thanks for that info!

I will fill in that I'm an old school recorder. I am letting go of the board gen thought process of recording all running audio in recording and diving in to the vst world 100%. I have not settled on a DAW yet to be honest and didn't think maybe that far in to doing mix downs to free up CPU etc.. I was just wondering if I could call up 2 running instances of Kore 2 software ed. to drive off 2 midi recording tracks, but as I read your post and think about this more, I think, sure I can, but your good point about CPU crunch would really be the issue. SO I think I am sold on getting the full blown Kore 2 Software so I can be more creative in my music style of recording, and worst case, just mix those down as loops for each snippet of that sound I req.

backstory is, I am trying to justify getting Komplete, where I really don't know if I need that much creation or control of sounds, -v- the easy and included control of Kore. (call me lazy) ;) I think I will start off with Kore and build libraries. Plus this will leave me more $$$ to get Maschine :D

Yes, Kore can function as a multi-timbral plugin and yes you can use multiple instances.

What I find works best with my two main DAWs (Sonar and Live) is use multiple instances with two or three instruments in each. The host then distributes instances between cores.

Komplete is incredibly good value however ...

How disciplined are you when you get some time to produce some music?

I'd recommend the second option if you're an old school hardware type (I am in that category). I'm a VST latecomer and loved the knobs, dials, sliders on my old hardware synths. MIDI recording was a revelation and affordable DAWs are fab - but in my head the working model remains a big multitrack recorder with the tape running left to right. It's just the magic box with the monitor does it now - and you still need to do little sub mixes beacuse the unlimited audio track thing is nonsense as we all know.

Kore 2 with some soundpacks covers just about everything I get asked to do. You know what it's like when you have to work quickly - you want a palette of sounds that do the job and the option to tweak easily in real time. Komplete would offer me a frightening opportunity to faff around auditioning noises when I should be working.

Kore 2 and a soundpack or two to get you going. Post again if you get Maschine - I'd love to hear what someone with a hardware background but new-ish to VSTs makes of it.

Good luck with whatever you opt for.
