Many many years ago when i used to DJ with just cds, i kept all my music organized using spreadsheets in MS Excel. Depending on how much work i was willing to put in, the functionality of the sorting feature was a major bonus. Having the collection browser in this digital age is spectacular but it could be so much more powerful.

Now, i am all for the integration of using meta data for the use of smartplaylists. Traktor users, including me, have begged for this feature for a long time. But this is different. There is already an exceptional amount of data attached to each file. We all have our own ways of organizing our playlists for however we perform. But at the end of the day, playlists are essentially static information when it comes time to perform. Utilizing multi-tiered search functionality (in the same vein as MS Excel) would streamline performance workflow.

Let's see some examples. I have playlists essentially organized by genre. Some of them are a little more specific than others. (i.e. current rap, recent rap, 90's rap, old school rap, fun rap, etc.) I also spin house, club, latin and a few other sub-genres. I utilize different info to organize and develop my sets as I go. (maybe i'm searching for my next track by similar BPM, maybe i want to find my next track by the key, maybe i want to find my next track by when i downloaded it.) if i were able to utilize a multi-tiered search, i could look through my playlist for every song that's (for example: between 116-124 BPM, in the key of 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b and with at least a 3 star rating.) or (in my rap PL, all Jay-Z songs, alphabetically, over 100 bpm, key 9a or 9b and star rated over 4).

Very quickly you can see how this could be a very beneficial feature while performing. Now I know a lot of the work should be done pre-emptively in playlist design, but we all know that we don't just open a PL and play tracks from top to bottom.

I saw someone mention on these boards an optional feature to "hide" all previously played tracks from view. Combining that feature with a multi-tiered search functionality could be one of the most powerful workflow features of this software.

I totally agree but I must say the collection browser is completely out dated to how many people want their workflow. The collection/browser needs to be updated in order to make things more easy and intuitive,, Same goes for the ability to have dynamic playlists, being able to move tracks/copy tracks from folder to folder and being able to rename audio files directly in traktor. What I don't get is, what is the reason NI just doesn't want to make these features.
