One of the most powerfull and creative aspects of traktor is its effects and the number of different ways they can be used. Whilst the single snapshot provided by the current system allows us to initiate an effect in a default state, it is not useful for accessing a number of different button/parameter configurations.

Currently, the only way round this is to hard code knob/button states to controller input. This is both time consuming and inflexible. For example, consider the number of controller mappings required to retrieve 4 different states for 1 effect - 4 x 8 = 32 (on/off, dry/wet, knobs 1-3, buttons 1-3). This leads to huge mappings requiring hundreds of hard coded settings. Creating and maintaining such a mapping would be both time consuming and lessthan intuitive. A simple change could lead to hours of work.

With the addition of multiple preset storage the mapping problem is reduced to a handful of simple rules and editing becomes completely intuitive - recall a preset, adjust the parameters, save it off.

There is immense creative power in the capability to hit a single button and simultaneously recall/enable a complex effect configuration or chain of effects (possibly across multiple units). Whilst it is fun continuously varying traktors effect parameters via individual control inputs, much of the time they are used in a "discrete" fashion. This could be on/off or by stepping the intensity to create buildups.

The beauty of a preset system is that it would also still allow users to override parameters using other control inputs.

This idea has come to me whilst trying to create an effect box using maschine - a great piece of hardware for this purpose, since it uniquely combines lit pads/buttons, encoders, aftertouch and two displays for visual feedback. Currently, I believe it will be possible to create a pretty powerful effect controller for 2 units, with 4 effects on each and 8 modulating buttons for each. However, for the reasons above, the modulation will probably be limited to single variables and set intervals (e.g. Stepping up the rate on a delay).

I intend to share this mapping back to the community, but I am conscious that it will be tailored to my effects tastes. Crucially, it could be very time consuming and complex for other users to repurpose it. Again, the addition of presets would make it possible to release a generic control mapping that would be much easier to customise. This would, in turn, increase the utility of mashine/X1.

    thanks,

    James

I totally agree James it is too time consuming mapping all of the knobs and parameters which is very frustrating. I am just trying to chain knobs to the dry wet button to have them all come on and be controlled at the same time and I am having real problems. smh
