I know this is a little off topic in the Machine forum. But I am an avid Maschine user since the original Machine was released. I have been trying to get my music placed for over 7 years with no luck. Any advice from someone who has successfully gotten there music placed or made beat making a career? #MaschineNation.

    Hello Justin.

I listened few beats from you. You have to work with your mixing and sound desing. Try listen another producers beats. Style that you are making i would recommed Saru Beatz from YouTube. Practice Practice. Good luck.

ask at some bars if they need someone for music or at a youth centre or similiar. doesn't bring in much money but you might establish some contacts and get free beer ;-)

practicing as mentioned... have your friends around and host some sessions, work with other artists to exchange tips and tricks, get feedback and improve. GL!

Go over to gearslutz. Plenty of industry professionals at that forum. Here won't do it.

Ive gotten a few songs placed on US network TV. I think you could get placements as your songs are production wise. Keep in mind that most shows featuring urban music will be using just a few seconds of a track. You wont get placed at all if you sample from other music. You could google Music Libraries and try approaching some directly. You may also find Taxi or Broadjam could work for you. The process with these would take close to a year if you get lucky.

Meanwhile listen to where you'd like to be placed and check out there mixiing . You have room to improve

i just listened to a bunch of your tunes on soundcloud. with out trying to offend you at all, i must say, your beats sound like everything else right now. the shitty thing about that is nothing sets you apart from the people actually getting paid to make beats like that.

    ****just listened to 4 more*****

yeah man its hard to make something that stands out, when your making something that trys to fit in. id say stop using sample packs and NI expansions because it makes everything sound un original.

but one good thing i did notice is that your consistently making music. thats the most important thing. good job

You can use sample packs and NI expansions to make tracks. They are a great investment to me. Let's say a pop artist what's an old school feeling track mixed with today's trap music sounds. Then you can look in your maschine expansion library for neon drive/circuit halo for drums/synths parts and use golden kingdom/lazer dice etc. That is what you use them for. TYou use maschine? Layer three over four sounds and run them through effects and start tweaking. After a while of layering and sound design you will come up with your own sound. Though I stopped Dee Jaying a while back, I still get a variety of music through my record pool. Genre's like pop latin, contemporary christian, pop, dance, alternative, country top 40, hip hop, dance etc. Listen to all kinds of music. After a while you will be able to dabble and try different genre's!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Trust me I'm not offended, I welcome any kind of criticism. That's how I will grow as a producer.

Dude that trapped track is hot. Of course people are going to say that your stuff sounds like this or that. Remember you shouldn't care what your competition thinks (other producers). Everyone has an opinion. You can take a little bit from different producers, but add your own twist to it. As long as the track is hot and your audience loves the music is all that matters. Join maschine tutorials and do saint joe's tutorials. Also, do the 10 min maschine drill on the site. I would also recommend finding one artist and start doing songs with that person. Make sure you do a split sheet for every song you do with the artist. It's a 50/50 split between aritst/producer. As a producer you should also join ASCAP or BMI before doing the split sheets.

i have several expansions and i am thoroughly disappointed. the sounds and samples they give you sound great, but they are sounds that are recycled over and over again. imho, using that sample pack that thousands of other producers are using is to put in bluntly, trite. and it lacks dedication and says to everyone else, "hey im not tryin to make something new, im tryin to do what this guy is doing"

the reason why NI makes those sample packs is to sell them, not to create diversity in "EDM" in fact the complete opposite. they want to make sample packs that sound like what ever is selling records these days.

if you want to make interesting music that you will appreciate and your listeners will appreciate than dont treat them like idiots by using played out expansion sounds and loops that you didnt create. how does one even get satisfaction out of that?

if everyone just relies on NI to make the sounds for us, then we are doomed to boring music.
best advice i ever heard "Creativity is born out of Limitation"

As far as relying on NI to just make sounds. I use omnisphere, air expansion, trillian, komplete 10 ultimate, studio one v3 stocks sounds/synths, steinbergs absolute collection, korg vst collection etc. I like using maschine expansions personally for the basics of the track (drums, perc etc) and add whatever vst I feel like using to build a full song. Sucks you couldn't get use of them. I just don't use NI only expansions. I have probably 80 percent of them though. I also use under radar companies that produce maschine expansions also (hello samples, maschine warehouse). With komplete 10 ultimate I do a lot of layering with expansion sounds and run them through effects and try to create something unique. Might take a maschine expansion pack snare and layer it with a drum lab snare etc. I try to be creative. I'm sure you will find something for you, if NI's expansions don't satisfy you.

Ok now the thread is getting off topic as most threads do. Can we focus on the main point of this thread please. There are other threads to discuss what you like and dislike about the expansion packs.

ive gotten use out of them, i just dont find they are worth anything close to 49.99 i rarely use them tho. however to be honest with you the most use i have gotten out of them is when jamming with a few other friends simultaneously, its cool to have kits already made with the kits samples and drum sounds.

back on topic. i recently did film score work for an indepent film. I knew the guy in charge of the sound from childhood and i happen to connect with him when they where recording. I sent him some tracks he could use and they ended up using them in the movie. the film is actually doing really well in film festivals its called "Love Hurts". But the idea im tryin to bring across to you is, find film students and people in college who are doing small projects and try to make stuff for the srudents movie. youll end up meeting people that are in the industry and things will happen if your music is good enough.

Cool man. Thanks. Good advice. I know some guys at a college here, so hopefully I can get connected that way. Plus I know a guy who makes compositions for film and tv, My music is up for sale on his site for tv and film.

Also I am glad you said my music sounded generic, not your exact words. But its true, My music used to be very creative and original, I admit it does sound main stream. I am having inspiration block due to a busy life but hopefully something will spark.
