    Thanks

From what I can see Kontakt looks like a bunch of samples rather than production software...am i wrong?

Also with Maschine can you jus buy the production software..??

No. Maschine is a hardware-software hybrid package and is only sold (by NI and its registered traders) as such. There are occasionally people selling just the software second-hand, but it's not advisable, in my opinion. If you are choosing software, Maschine would only be a good choice if you intend to use the hardware. Otherwise, there are other, better options for mouse/keyboard and MIDI keyboard production setups. Arguably, any DAW... Which one is best for you is up to you though.

Why do it have to be from NI?
Other vendors have better products for your purpose, i.e. Studio One from Presonus. They have a black friday offer so you get the full versions for a very fair price.
    Just an example.

Right. Komplete is "just" a sample Library. But a very nice one.

What kind of music d'you want to make?

Well Komplete has synths there too its Kontakt that's the rompler (that comes with Komplete). But it doesn't have a sequencer although you'd probably find one in Reaktor.

have you looked at the NI website?

Kontakt is a collection of Instruments and Effects that can be used in any DAW.

the Instruments include samplers and synthesisers. The effects cover everything you need in terms of mixing and mastering.

a combination of any DAW and Komplete is all you need to make and produce music of any style.

Kontakt comes with a huge library but is not just "a bunch of samples" or a rompler. Heresy! ;)
It's a full featured sampler, the difference is you can record your own samples and create sophisticated instruments.

@Samwise Gamgee, if you use a Mac, take a look at Logic Pro X, hard to beat for 180€ and you'll have everything to get you started.

    Right.

    Wrong.

This is right. Kontakt is one of the industries most powerful sampler. Komplete is a Bundle of Kontakt (the sampler) as well as a lot of other instruments like Reaktor (for sounddesign and more). Anyway you won't be happy with both of them in standalone. What you need is a sequencer. Kind of production studio. Into that you can integrate and use these NI products perfectly.
Cubase, Logic, Studio One.... or just ask Google for "audio software +seqencer". Even better: visit your local music store and see what you'd like.

Not sure how I was wrong unless I misunderstand the term 'rompler' which I take to mean a sampler with a lot of pre-created content available for it. I certainly wasn't running down its sampling capabilities; I know what its capable of given I own a copy.

-- after checking seems I was wrong!

Yes, its a powerful sampler but with libraries available that go above and beyond mere sample playback. Check some of them out (such as action strings) on the NI website.

I guess a rompler would be the kontakt player.
