Modular screen setup - where you can drag and arrange 'moldules' where you want them. I spoke about this in another thread which I couldnt find in the search again (honest!).

Anyway having just got a vcm600 I am now going to use more than just 2 decks so this feature really appeals.

    The modules would be:

Decks (option to have 1,2,3 or 4 decks on view as oppossed to currently only 2 or 4)
FX Units (option to have 1,2,3 or 4 units on view as opposed to currently only 2 or 4)
    Mixer
    Browser List
    Browser Tree
    Global Section

It just doesnt feel analagous to a real DJ setup to have 4 decks the way they currently are - it would make more sense to have them running all horizontal or all vertical. I realize that (especially on 13" monitors) you would most likely have to settle for the mini view but what about having an option where 3 could be mini and 1 max?

For example - having 4 Decks vertically on the left of the screen would mean the mixer could be on the top right half with the browser below or vice versa.

If someone who is good on photoshop could demonstrate how this would look it would be a good help - anybody?

I personally don't have a problem 'remapping' the traditional setup to a 2 on 2 deck setup in my mind. The 2 top decks translate to the inner two decks around the mixer, and the bottom 2, the outer two.

I think having 4 decks either horizontally or vertically is not a good option due to screen real estate (most 'Pro' use of TS are on laptops with with 13", 15" or maybe even 17" screens).

I also think having a 'modular' interface for Traktor, whilst being desirable for some, is not the route that NI has chosen to take. There were elements of Traktor Studio that were modular, remember, but not in the latest version. It seems that NI want to have a uniform, streamlined, simpler version that will reduce user error amongst the less technical minded, but possibly frustrate those who want customisation.

I definitely think we need some more work done on the interface, though. I'd like to see a 'no browser' view that dispenses entirely with the browser, so you can have a 4 deck advanced view. Also, I'd like to be able to switch from 2 to 4 decks and 2 to 4 FX panels with a MIDI command.

The ideal setup for me is to be able to have the interface switch 'smartly' as I perform. Searching for a track? Traktor switches automatically to 'Browser' view. Load into the 3rd deck? Traktor switches automatically to 4 deck mode. Load a macro chained FX into slot 3? Switch automatically to 4 FX mode. A lot of this is already possible, and IMO is the most efficient way to use a laptop's screen.

    Just my (lengthy) 2c.

Alright mate, thanks for the response and I understand your points. But I doubt I'm alone in wanting the ability to move stuff around on the screen. There are many possibilities for this but currently for decks we are only offered 1 primary layout (not counting mini/max/hide etc) where there are at least another 3 or 4 posible options. I dont understand how providing these options would increase user error? Maybe I'm missing something but how would the ability to set the position of a deck on the screen possibly cause a user error? Unless there was a software bug perhaps.

At the end of the day workflow, ergonomics, screen real-estate - is all down to personal choice but at the moment those choices are very limited.

I agree with all your latter points about screen setup and as you say most can be done via midi macros already.

Well yeah, I guess the extra coding etc may introduce extra bugs and that is something that may have influenced NI's decision not to make this version of Traktor modular.

I was more concerned with users reporting that they can't see decks X and Y or that they can't bring up the master panel or some such. Which is quite possible now anyway with the current layout. Guess I've been hanging around this forum for too long, should have more faith in people I guess!

Definitely MIDI-able. I've been playing with getting such a setup going for the last few weeks now. Almost perfected it too, with MANY MANY modifiers and multi-mapped keys/buttons/knobs.

I'm sure you've already figured it out for your setup. I wonder if anyone would be interested in such a mapping for the Korg Zero4+Trigger Finger.

switching from 2 to 4 decks view requires setting up a layout and switching the layout via MIDI. i dont think you can switch between 2 and 4 FX (here we are talking TP 1.2 anyways) via MIDI in the recent beta yet.

I would find this useful - mainly for the purpose of either designing a custom controller or for more intuitive positioning of screens to integrate into a more traditional Dj set up.

Small separate screens for each deck either side of an external mixer. All to avoid looking at the laptop whilst performing; hardware control of all important Traktor features with led feedback - the only thing the screen is needed for is the waveform display / deck information (and the browser).
