My maschine controller recently died and my question is really twofold - Firstly, can anyone tell me what my options are for using the software now? As in, I was a hardware kind of guy and only ever used the controller, never the software for anything so can I still do everything in the software (without the controller) and if there are restrictions doing it that way can I use my midi keyboard to control maschine software?? Second, I have seen a controller on ebay with no software. Is there any reason I cant just buy it and use it instead of my old one? I mean will it just work? Hope I've explained myself adequately...(probably not...)

Sorry to hear your controller packed up :( any other maschine will work fine with your software, so if the eBay ones a good deal snap it up. Maschine can be somewhat controlled with midi keyboards but it's a lot slower, you'll have to click the sounds, groups etc you want to use

Thanks mate, appreciate the reply. In the meantime, can I do everything in the software? I dont want to start a project and try and find my way using just the software (which I'm not used to anyway) only to find the reason I cant do certain stuff in there is because its only possible with the controller. Know what I mean?

Yeah I think you can get everything done without the controller, it will take much more time though. A second hand maschine is the best option if you can find a good one. I can't of the top of my head think of anything you can't do with the mouse.

Once you learn your way around the ui it won't be to bad

I've not looked at the UK ebay, but i keep my eyes on the australian one (as I'm living here presently) just to see what pops up and a second hand Mk1 goes for about AU$200-250 or so including software license. I've not really seen many mk2's but if memory serves they're going for NI sale price-ish (AU$450 or so). UK ebay is cheaper for alot of stuff so you may get better deals there. As you dont need the software you can going for one thats controller only and knocking them down a bit.

    Good luck with it!!

Thanks brother, does anyone know if I can use a midi keyboard to trigger and generally control the maschine software? I ask because now isn't the best time for an extra expense so I could do with holding off on buying a new controller for a few weeks

You can, you will have to choose instruments and groups with the mouse but you can use a midi keyboard for recording.
I think you can set the drum kit group up to accept different midi notes for each sound, so the keyboard can still knock out beats. It will keep you going until another controller turns up
