Yes, one of those posts, sorry.
I may well be in the minority, but I felt I should at least give voice to my initial gripes.

In short, 5.5 takes some choices away from me.

I've been putting off downloading 5.5; some of the described changes were concerning me. I finally bit the bullet because, you know, if everyone else embraces it I would still like to avail myself of the user library - little stuff like that.

I can't be the only one that liked occasionally having a bunch of structure views open at once - primary and core, varying sizes, widths, still being able to click over to the panel to change something - that was nice. Literal copy & paste from several sources or even just looking at a couple primary structures while building a core cell will be harder now.

I have several ensemble panels that fill a screen perfectly. Now if I want the properties screen it sits in the left and shrinks my panel. Before I could put it anywhere and keep my full screen. I never used the browser and probably never will for the same reason. What does it give me that right click doesn't?

In both cases it doesn't seem these restrictions need to be locked in.

I just feel dragged into an alleged upgrade that makes at least some of my workflow harder. Before anyone says I didn't have to upgrade I remind that I do if I want to continue to access the newest creations by others.

Anyway, rant over, thanks for reading if you made it this far.

    Mike

I've been working with 5.5 for a while now, and it definitely is an improvement. Give it a little time and practice and I'm sure you'll see an improvement in workflow.

Restricting the window sizes allows for faster control, and more usable screen area, imo.

The browser can be useful for user macros especially. It is faster to drag a macro from the browser to the work area than to navigate the menus in the right click menu. The trick is to put all your most commonly used macros in the same folder. So, it needs a little time to set up, but once you've got a folder of commonly used macros it's a little faster.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm sure I'll adjust eventually, but I shouldn't have to imo.
I liked deciding what "useable screen area" meant for me.
As for your macros example, my most used macros are in the root of User Lib\Macros. So, right click, macros, there they are. Sorry that is just as fast, and I don't need a browser gobbling up my screen to do it.

FWIW, i had both 5.15 and 5.5 running on this computer for a while with no problem.

if you don't like it, don't use it, but don't complain that *other* people may use it and you may not get access to their work *for free*, that's just silly.
