...or at least that's how it seems...

Since upgrading to Traktor Pro 1.1.2 on my Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium SP1 PC, I can't do the same things that were second nature with Traktor 3 LE, such as use the 'Scratch' button to allow my jog wheels to scratch or backspin a track that's playing (this is my biggest unresolved issue)

I used to be able to use the 'on/off' and 'delay' buttons for effects, now I can't

and I want to take full advantage of switching between all four decks and recording with push button functionality

I'm sure all this is possible, but I'm less than a novice at MIDI mapping, fairly new to DJing and just trying to get technically sound for upcoming events. I don't want to sound like the amateur I am, if at all possible.

I'm sorry if this post is redundant or similar to another one already up, but I've contacted Numark and NI for support and come up pretty much empty.

You guys are my last hope...

    Someone, please help me.

    hello,

I had exactly the same problem a few months back expecting a seamless upgrade from Le to Pro which is not the case as you have found out, but do not fear with a bit of research and trial and error I found all the solutions I was looking for which happen to be simalar to the problems you are having.

In the main Omni Control thread- I found a modified TSI map by side effect who for me personally fixed many of the issues- (credit due to side effect) the map is much more logical and has much more usuability than the standard Omni mapping issued.

My suggestion would be to load in that TSI map and see how you get on.
As for the scratching effect that took a bit longer to solve but eventually solved by adding 2 midi commands with a modifier so when the page button is pressed the scratch mode is active (as used in traktor LE)

I assigned a couple of keyboard commands for toggle between 2 decks / 4decks and also for browser mode which I found really usefull for getting most out of Traktor

I know this probably sounds a bit confusing as it did for me but 4 months down the line i have the omni working exactly as i want. Most knowledge can be found in the forum with help from others and I found the Traktor bible to cover everything I need explaining.

    Good Luck

i keep reading that poeple cant get the jog wheel working, mine works all the time with out having to use the scratch button and thats using the NI tsi.

i think we all have the problem of midi mapping when we first get the omni if we know nothing about mapping, i thought great get the omni its all set up then get dissapointed when starting it up to find out certain things dont work, but beleave me working it out for yourself as you go along is well worth it, you get to know how traktor really works at the same time to.

i know this might sound silly but have you tryed updates and reinstalling the tsi again? i did have a few problems when i first used onmi but after a few sessions it all seemed to work fine.

    just a bit more, please...

unless I'm looking in the wrong place, I cannot find the thread or specific post you're referring to, nor did I come up with it when I searched for user Side Effect. Can you post a link for me please?

I knew assigning keyboard commands was possible, I just have no idea how to do it and make it work, so I haven't even fooled around with it...can I use the keyboard commands AND the 'Side Effect' .tsi map AND the 2 midi commands for Traktor LE-similar scratching simultaneously? it sounds like a tall order...where do I begin?

    it all sounds confusing!

...wait, there's a 'Traktor Bible'? where can I get my hands on this?

I barely understand what a .tsi file does or is used for, much less how to customize one for my personal and professional use. Your help has been the most promising so far (for which, I'm very grateful). I just need to be pointed in the right direction for the resources you referred to

    thanks again for your assistance!

    5/16,

Yes I know it does seem like a lot to take in but it does get easier once you begin to learn how the mapping thing works.
A tsi map is basically a template that allows the functions of Traktor to be controlled by the buttons and knobs of your Omni control. So you could have different TSI maps to suit different styles depending what features you use most.

You can use a TSI map and add keyboard commands to make things easier- I will try and help you through all the things you mentioned as they are exactly what I was looking for but for now if you try and locate "Omni Control Mixer settings" thread in this forum, then locate post no.60 you will find side effect map.
Save it somewhere on your computer then click import in preferences and hopefully that will load in the map and then we can look at adding the other commands.

Give it a try and reply to this thread letting me know how you get on.

    good luck

the biggest difference I noticed loading the side effect .tsi was needing to use the 'page' button to make the jog wheels work...period.

...so I reloaded the traktor pro/onmi default .tsi so I could at least use the jog wheels to get to a precise cue point without needing that additional push button step...

as for scratch/backspin WHILE a track is playing? still no dice.

reading through the thread you sent me to, I notice a few users having the EXACT SAME ISSUE, with little-to-no resolution. I don't know whether to be encouraged or disappointed by this fact, but anyway...I do appreciate the help in trying to get my software/hardware relationship setup...

Ok- Just to clarify- for this mapping this is how my set up works:

while decks are playing- jog wheels affect tempo bend for minor adjustments while syncing,
while the deck is stopped the jog wheel acts as a transport wheel allowing to move through a track dropping markers (cues/grid/load) wherever you want.
If this is the behaviour you are after then it should all be possible with this Map.
A lot of this is based on personal preference so i can only comment what works well for me.

Ive set up my own map so that once I push the page button the jog wheels act as "scratch mode" so that by touching a jog wheel while a deck is playing results in a scratch effect simalar to Traktor LE. I could upload my TSI but as I have other controllers built into my map (korg nanopad, nanokey) you might have some features missing as these controllers would be missing from your set up.

If spinbacks are your thing- have you tried using Turntable FX in advanced mode and hitting the REV button- i find hitting that then, turning doen the dry/wet to bring a track back in can have interesting effects.

one last question as the controller management is much improved in version 1.2- are you using the beta 1.2 or a previous version of traktor?

This was possible with the default omni control .tsi activated when you first run traktor, the one I'm on now...

sounds like what I'm looking for...

    ...damn, that probably wouldn't work

Turntable FX? Advanced Mode? REV button? dry/wet? I'm completely lost on all these commands. (I feel like such a dunce, sorry!)

I'm pretty sure I'm using version 1.1.2, the upgrade-from-LE version I purchased from the NI site. Should I be doing something different?

Here is my TSI- it should work ok for you. Just as a test load my TSI map in, play a track, push the page button (scratch mode) and then touch the jog wheel and see if this creates the effect you are looking for. Pushing the page button again should bring you back to Normal mode.

I have lots of others additions built into this map- (deck C&D controls, filters etc) but dont worry too much about them for now.

You can change back to your original TSI after- this will just help to work out if this does the job.

    Good Luck

YES! I can back spin and scratch live!

now it's time to fine tune. I notice when 'page' page is active, the 'load track' button on my omni loads the track into decks C&D, which is fine, but can I cue them from my omni the same way I do with A&B?

how do I edit playlist shortcuts (like where I'm seeing a dead link to deadmau5)?

I see you use a wider pitch bend range that I had, is that editable?

Can I activate the scratch effect using the 'scratch' buttons on seperate channels as is the case with Traktor 3 LE?

And you mentioned something about keyboard functions? can I set a keyboard function and/or omni push button function to start/stop recording?

I feel like I'm closer than ever to figuring out how tweaks to the system are done, and your .tsi was very helpful.

one more thing: should I upgrade to the 1.2 beta?

    Thank you so much!

Im glad you got the feature you were after! -it took me 3 months to find the answer but I learnt a lot along the way so i guess it was worth it.

If you drag and drop one of your own playlists on top of "Deadmau" it should set up a new shortcut for you.

I believe this can changed in preferences- i use 35% but you probably prefere 10%

-yes- just locate the correct recording command- push "learn" and then assign a keyboard / Omni Button

1.2 is in Beta, so there a few bugs- Ive noticed Audio quality is not quite as good which Im sure will be fixed by time of full release, but there are some usefull extra features- 4 effects banks, and a simplified control manager which helps assign seperate controllers. I would recommend you get to grips with your current version for now- there is plenty to enjoy before you will need the additional 1.2 features

-I mentioned the backspin feature which u might enjoy- on my mapping load Turntable FX in effects bank 2, play a track with effects bank 2 on, turn the knob labelled "dry/wet" to 100% and then push the button which lights up "REV" on Traktor- I think it might be labelled as "sync" button on the OMNI in the global section. Once the effect kicks in turn the dry/wet back down to bring the track back in.

Give it a go! -Hope this helps.

    Hi folks.

Ive been watching this topic aswel as the other topic on the omni control for a few weeks since buying one. I managed to sync my control eventually by using one of the TSI's posted then tweaking it to my liking in the preferences. I was perfectly happy and really enjoyed mixing with it until my Harddrive encounted a mechanical fault and lost all my music and 'tweaked' TSI. I was GUTTED!
But ive overcome this now and bourght a new HD and went about re-installing everything again. This is when my dillema started. Ive acceidently thrown my Omni control installation disk out with the box. Yep im a twat lol. I thourght i could just use the driver from the Numark support to get my omni working again, which it did but now none of the LED's work when mapping it to Traktor. Im leading to beleive this is because i have not installed the omni correctly but im unsure. Can anyone shed alittle light into my situation please? Id be very grateful for your help.

    Thanks

    Joe

so it's been a little while since joining the boards, I've upgraded to the full 1.2, still using the omni, and my DJ career is blossoming, thanks to some early help I found here.

One thing I still haven't managed to crack is how to control deck C & D. My .tsi is programmed to load tracks into C & D when the 'page' button is in effect, (I even learned by accident that if you press 'L' on the keyboard, it brings up all 4 decks on screen) but I can't use the cue or play buttons to control the lower decks as I'd like.

    has anyone solved this issue?
