Ok, first of all a disclaimer; I'm writing this at a time when I'm slightly / quite aggravated. I'm well fluent enough with the Net not to turn this into a sneer fest, but anyway...

Edit: This involves the new Maschine (says so on the box: "New version").

So my Maschine finally got delivered, I set it all up ready to go. Pop in the DVD and guess what? A lot of noise coming from the drive and that's it; its not being recognized as a valid DVD on my Vista machine.

I've done a lot on this PC already and I can rule out any drive issues easily. Fortunately my job is to know something about computers and as such I have more than one available. Grabbed an older laptop running XP, popped in the DVD and njente, nada, noppes, zip as well.

All of these machine's have dvd writers.

I finally popped it into my Linux workstation (which uses a rather old Pioneer slot-in dvd player) and it finally worked.

Unfortunately I also discovered why I'm having issues: because this seems to be caused by your "brilliant" copyright protection. As soon as I copy the installer and the 2 library directories onto a network drive and try to install the Maschine software from there on my Vista box it doesn't work because it wants the original DVD.

And no; having the DVD inserted during this alternative installing also doesn't work.

NOW what am I supposed to do ?

I'm quite aggravated to be paying roughly E 600,- for stuff which doesn't work due to some f*cked up copyright scheme. I'm also very surprised to see that this also means that us users can't make any backup copy's of our software. CD/DVD's aren't exactly a very reliable medium, so as soon as we have a problem with the DVD then that's it? No more Maschine?

Anyway, I am also opening a support ticket but am hoping for a quicker response here (last ticket I opened is still ongoing, now a good 2 weeks ago).

I'm getting quite annoyed at the idea not being able to use Maschine during the upcoming hollyday season

    i had the same issue

Unfortunately, I had to change the dvd drive on my computer because the maschine 1.5 dvd is incompatible with older dvd durners. When you open your computer you will see what date your dvd drive was manufactured, there is a label affixed at the top of the drive. You need a dvd drive or burner that was manufactured 2009 or later. And that should solve the problem, it did with mine...

Are you sure? After all, it worked on the OP's "a rather old Pioneer slot-in dvd player". I could not see anything specified on the Maschine System Requirements page about the DVD.

Do you know what the incompatibility is?

I've done some serious testing and my conclusion is that its caused by the copy protection. The installers are tied to the dvd in such way that some information on the dvd needs to be accessible by the installers.

The only test I haven't performed (yet?) is by using the 'official' ISO image and to burn that onto a CD.

Still, I think the whole situation is quite stupid.. As usual its legitimate users who end up with major issues thanks to some copy protection. It would have made more sense if the DVD as a whole wasn't so easily copied anyway.. A mere DVD image is enough to make this work again; so basically you're copying the entire copy protection with it.

    Oh well...
