I have just done a 3 hour gig at an opening on a designer clothing store and my laptop crashed half way through, i restarted it and carried on but it was very embarrasing!
What do you guys think the problem could of been?
    I have..
    Dell xps 17
    Traktor 2
    Kontrol s4

My laptop is brand new with no problems and i had the wifi off, high power & apci disabled even though i thought TP2 woulda solved all problems.

It happened suddenly and it Read " Traktor pro 2 error", i restarted the comp and it was ok but i can't be having that s**t man! its very unproffesional and unreliable.

Everything else worled fine and i didnt notice any audio drops, and there was just one minor freeze.

Any help would be really appreciated!:(

Help with what? Can you recreate what crashed Traktor so that it crashes again?

If not, there's nothing that we can help you with.

the crashes are rampant on the web. I’m running MBP 17inch 2.66 4g ram.
I really don’t know what happened as it was working fine the previous day.
crashes about 2 min after I open It every time, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

I was setting it up with maschine, I’m going to turn off the midi send and see if that helps.
    ---
ok. confirmed. traktor 2 crashes w/ the midi clock send on during start up. the best I can tell as long as the send midi box is unchecked the crashing stopped.

That is why I am spending extra grand for Pro Mac and I am not some mad mac fun. I was told by many IT folks, or musicians that for life performance they would be more stable but not 100 % reliable - nothing is :(

This is why you need to have a back up option man. Always expect the worse so you will not be suprised. Even one CDJ 100 and small mixer with prerecorded set ready to be played within the seconds. Or poxy I pod plugged in to the mixer.

This is why it is imperativ to do stress test YOUR system every time you do mayor changes.

Your lucky a reboot resolved the probem. That proves it again to always have a backup solution as the show must go on.

next time it happens, go on the mic and get the crowd singing, it will be the best gig they have ever been too!

Seriously though, my mate uses a PC, hers crashed 3 times at a gig, in the end she gave up and used the CDJ's. Not good

Stress test is the best advice. Try and replicate the issue at home.

To be honest, I would never trust a PC when doing a gig. PCs just seem to have far more issues than Macs do in regards to stability(I'm getting myself a MBP for exactly that reason). I highly suggest investing in a MBP for extra reliability.

Let's not turn this into another Mac vs. PC thread.

That sucks man, sorry to hear that. I would recommend keeping the CDJs on standby incase anything like that happens again. I will be having my first gig soon, I don't want to jinx my set up but at the moment I've been able to run TP2 with the net connected and stuff going on in the background like normal. I got a custom laptop built from PC Specialist.
