Ok Ive been looking around and it seems like every forum I go to say they have problems with AK1. NI has to kno that AK1 is failing to achieve the standards of an interface. I had problems with maschine and NI took care of it asap. When I had questions and problems with kontakt 4 they were resolved asap. Why NI is so slow to help out AK1 users? Are they about to discontinue the product? AK1 is @ Guitar Center for less than $200 bucks, now when it came out it was over $300 bucks. As far as Maschine the price increased b/c they are constantly improving it. I think you can tell in the price that NI knows AK1 needs a make-over or it would never go on sale like that. I wanted to buy Kore 2 also but after this experience with AK1 I will wait it out. Pleas NI make a better driver for AK1 you know you have to to keep selling these things. Or I will continue to cry..lol

Maybe because it works for the majority of users? In all the forums I frequent (and it's a lot), many more people say they have no issues with AK 1 than say they do.

@ ew you wanna bet? search future producers or krv you can count there are more unsatisfied people than good comments, even here at NI forums there are more complaints than praises of this product. Search and find you will see. I even see post elsewhere people said their done with NI products..

I dont see nobody saying this is a great product in this forum. Maschine users praise their product in NI forum, AK1 gets no love @ its own forum..

Lets face it its time for a update. Why the sudden price drop? Maschine price went up...Lets face it AK1 has problems cut the price so we can hurry up & sell em...Wait up the price of maschine b/c we kno it works..

    Audio Kontrol 1 driver

    Hi,
I bought recently Audio Kontrol 1.
First, I've installed the original program and driver from the Audio Kontrol 1 package DVD. The installation asked me for the directory in which the program and the driver would be installed. Also the Service Center was installed and it runned ok.

After, searching for update in the NI Support/Updates page I've found :

    - AUDIO KONTROL 1 Full Installer 1.2.5 Windows
    - AUDIO KONTROL 1 1.2.5 Win Update

    They both do that:
"The package installs the most recent hardware driver (version 2.0.15) and Controller Editor (1.2.5.409) for Audio Kontrol 1. This update brings support for Audio Kontrol 1 and Windows 64-Bit systems. Refer to the Readme file for further information."

Launching one of these update it doesn't ask for the Audio Kontrol 1 destination dir but it starts and writes into the System Hard Disk (the Hard Disk that contains the Operative System (XP SP2 files in my case). Why ? I hate programs that write in HD that I cannot choose. Is it necessary ? Again, also Service Center has been installed, obviously into the same HD! But it doesen't works so fine.

NI, can you deliver soon another Audio Kontrol 1 update please, also with the choice for the dir and the HD in which the files would be installed, and a Service Center that runs properly ?

    Thanks a lot!
    Regards
    Devadip

Search the Ableton forums or KVR or Cakewalk or DOA or... you'll find lots more satisfied users than not.
Completely different. You don't see people waxing ecstatic over the products in most of the forums.
Ah- no. AK 1's price is the same as it was when it was released:
    http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=4101&prid=66&redirected=1

Maschine's has gone up- true. However, that's more than likely due to the parts and labor involved in making the controller. There's a lot more parts to the controller, and lots more assembly time.

And, there'll be new drivers soon. When I can't say.

That's my main gripe about the new drivers to be honest- the fact that they automatically install to C:\Program Files. I'd like to see that changed as well.

Ok NI forget everything I said bad about AK1. It was my out dated puter. I just got a new puter with a i7 and it works great, and I didnt have to mess with any settings, no latency or nothing...If AK1 do not work properly then it could just be your puter like it was in my case. thanks to the i7 everything GREAT!

Ok R.B.S. now you have to go back to all of the forums where you trashed the AK1 and say you're sorry. Ok?

    :')

I love stories like this. I love you NI. (wipes tear from eye)

it has to do with the computer hardware, the mainboard. Some computers are compatible with AK1, some are not. Until now it seems not clear what exactly are the specifications that the AK1 needs to run smoothly. So you can buy a new computer and have problems with AK1 and with the old machine all is well, or vice versa.

It also looks like that there will be no software solution (driver) in future, the bug appears to be in the hardware of the AK1. Therefore we should have a computer hardware compatibility list. I have my AK1 running on an Aspire One netbook, everything works well (Windows 7 and OSX, both 32-bit).

Does anyone of you have probs with ITunes and Firefox opend at once ?

Does anyone of you have probs with ITunes and Firefox opend at once ?

The sound begins to overdrive when both apps are open and when you play songs or videos from Fox and ITunes.

I have installed the newest driver and all went well but the prob with the both apps are still there

I have mine running on a Dell XPS M1330. Previously i was using it with a Dell Inspiron so i guess it works well with Dells lol. I've also use it with an old amd desktop without issue too. It's a good card if you can get it working. I'd definitely search out a system that was compatible if i could. If NI is still doing the free synth promo you almost get the card for nothing anyway. ;)

I noticed a similar problem when Windows Media Player is open and I try to play a YouTube video. Doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes the YouTube video plays with a nasty overdrive type sound. Closing Windows Media Player and reloading the YouTube vid always fixes it.

Not a major problem. I'm not using WMP and YouTube at the same time intentionally. It just happens when I forget WMP is open.

Yes, the same by me, but it happens with all Audioapplications not only the situation with Cubase and Firefox.

By overdrive what, really loud distortion? The audio breaks up sometimes like it's been downsampled. I just disable and reenable the ak1 in playback devices and that sorts it out. Sounds like a different issue but may work.

I just had the distortion thing happen with FL Studio and YouTube as well. But it's the first and only time I've noticed it with these two particular audio sources. Yes, it's an audio breakup that sounds downsampled here as well.

I had the AK1 on a rather new laptop recently (I forgot the brand and model of the laptop, sorry), it worked without a problem.

I heard that compatibility problems can come from a) the USB-chip and b) the chipset. So depending on what chip is built in your system, the AK1 will work or will never really work. Maybe some driver magic can solve this, but probably it will remain a hardware compatibility issue.

Does it also depend on the software you use?

I have a less than 45 days old Macbook Pro i5 with 4Gb RAM and the AK1 application doesn't work for me.

    Bought AK1 new from MusiciansFriend.

What's interesting is that the Guitar Rig and Kore Players works just fine but not the Audio Kontrol apps.
It crashes every time I tried to run it so at least I know the hardware is fine.
Downloaded the new driver, reinstalled, still the same thing.
Submitted Tech Support request and haven't heard anything back.
