    Hi.
I have all libraries on a secondary HD and all my expansion packs are in a specific folder for organization purposes.
I just bought 3 new packs and NA installed them without asking me for a folder it sure would be nice for it to ask me where to install.

I manually moved the folders, ran the usual scan thing inside Maschine but it created new folders for each expansion where it first installed the libraries and they are not showing up in the software. Help?

Also the expansions don't show under
    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/my-account/my-products-serials-downloads/
So i could download individually and be able to install in the proper place.

You have to go into NA preferences and set file location for Content.

I would uninstall the new packs and reinstall via NA after you set your desired Content location path

    Thanks dude
I guess if you have a specific folder just for expansions like me, you have to set it up in the preferences before installing.
The old installer used to ask where to install thats why i was confused.

This thread may be closed it guess.

I made the same mistake when I first used NA to install products. I think NI should at least make NA give a confirm popup of the target installation location before installing since not everyone know those settings exist in preferences.

Agree. Or at least a checkbox to prompt for location in preferences would be nice.

One more question... uninstall means delete the folders right? Cause I don't see a uninstall option anywhere in NA.

Oh man the frustration is real, such a simple little thing yet I'm wasting like an hour of my time.
Theres no uninstall button, deleting the folder does nothing as NA still considers the expansions as installed and therefor i can't install them... Or download directly cause they don't show up in my products serial page...

I don't feel like wasting more time scavenging my computer for a bunch of files, look in a bunch of folders just to move the libraries, i have 3 HD and a ton of files.. that guide would take for ever. I already regret buying the expansion pack and i won't do it again anytime soon. It's 2017 and all this effort change a library path in todays age is just plain ridiculous. When NA gets the "re-install" option (probably in 2025) that was announced ill move it.

    Thanks for your help tho.

    Hey D-One,

Sorry for your frustration! You pro guys want to keep a tight lock on where what goes - we understand this. However, this creates way too many options which allow newbies to break their own installations. So we decided to keep everything in one folder strictly, for now only supporting the "most used" situation.

At some point we will have some kind of "relocate" functionality in Access which could allow you to move stuff and then "relocate" it in Access. For now you'll have to change your preferences each time before an install.

And, reinstall is coming most likely this year! ;-)

Looking forward for the reinstall feature, and sorry if i was a bit harsh.

    Hey D-One,

No worries, I didn't really experience your outings as harsh :D

I was out of office for 2 months. If you scroll back in the forum you'll see I normally regularly reply in here.

Well, I must say I think NI has grossly underestimated the "power-userness" of their Komplete customers.

The option for alternate location should have been left in place, particularly if you take into consideration the fact that some libraries may need to be placed in different locations just to allow for drive partitions for these and other very large sound libraries that are constantly filling up.

    Hi BIF,

You can change the location where top install libraries. Just change your preferences before you hit install again. While this is not the most convenient way you can perfectly do what you want to do.

With NI having the leading sampler for large libraries and it being such a big part of Komplete, I am surprised that a way to set locations for these libraries separate from other content was not a part of NA. This is not so much a "power" feature, I feel it is essential given the scope of the product. Having to change the not so obvious single install location before each library install is totally not good enough when you have such a diverse amount of content being installed and updated. At the very least, I would have expected a dialog that ask where you want to install your Kontakt libraries that is separate from the other things.

I feel the same, but Bram knows my opinion on this. Choosing where you want to install your sample library is definitely NOT a "power user" feature, and having only one content folder dumbs down the product too much without giving us "normal" users workarounds that take too much time when it should be as simple as having a checkbox in Preferences to "Ask for content location before every install" (but NOT update - once location for a product is set it stays as such - unless we get the possibility to relocate content, which we should at some point), and that option would gray out the content folder option!

I have SEVEN hard drives/SSDs (and this is what you will see with most semi-pro and pro composers - and majority of them are NOT power users as you would perhaps think - they just load up patches and go! But they have a huge heap of all sorts of libraries!). It is hell trying to manage NI stuff that I have across them in NA.

One of the main reasons I'm not upgrading Komplete 9. Perhaps the main reason. Until NA is as reliable and as functionally complete as service center (ie does no take functionality away) we should NOT be forced to upgrade and be part of a real-time beta test.

However I notice Kontakt for some reason has suddenly disappeared from service center without notice (other threads about that).

Oh and I agree with others.. not a "power user" feature. That's like saying reverse in a car is for advanced drivers only.

Would a symbolic link work in this situation?

So I have all I can loaded on my C drive but that is now full and I tried the relocate but it did not work and I am trying to install expansion packson windows. So do I go into N.A and change the download and content location to D drive then install then open maschine and go to preffrences and add the new folder? thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this. times running out on the deal but I dont want to buy something that wont work then spend 3 weeks trying to get a refund :s

That could work, but Maschine is supposed to automatically know where NA installs things. After the NA installation re-scaning factory libraries should find your content.
If you change the path in NA to have only some things installed in a different location you then have to remember to change it back when installing new stuff that you might not want in that folder.

Back when I started this thread I wanted all my expansions in a separate folder from my other big Kontakt libraries, but it always caused issues, so eventually I gave up and just have it all in the same folder.
