I tried to update Kontact. Downloaded and tried to run NA. It seemed to attempt to start up, then nothing. I ran task manager and found NA under processes but nothing shows up on the screen.

Any idea what I could do to correct this ? Is there another way to update Kontact ?

Hi Stan, yes I did download from there. I just tried to run it again, and again nothing showed up on the screen.
I check task manager and it was there under processes. I terminated it, uninstalled it, downloaded it again and then re-installed.
But got the same response. It seems to 'load' but nothing shows on the screen. It does though show up in the task manager.

I am totally at a loss as to what the problem is.

Service Center doesn't seem to work anymore either, it just 'checks for an internet connection' forever.

Is there any other way to upgrade Kontakt ?

    Thank you...

I've had the same problem a number of times and have found a solution for it. Sorry if this will be a rather technical description.

I have a dual display setup and it seems like Native Access sometimes get confused and show the window on a non-existent display.

I can easily reproduce the problem by dragging the Native Access window to my right display and then close the window. The next time I open Native Access, it will open invisible.

Native Access will always open on the same place where it was last closed, and there is a value in the Windows registry that keeps this information. When I get this problem, the saved value indicates an "impossible" location and the window is opened outside of the visible screen space. Sometimes the value indicates that the window should be opened to the left of my left display, sometimes it properly indicates that the window should be opened on my right display but it still isn't shown there.

The solution is to hack the value in the register, but as always: DON'T manipulate your registry unless you know what you are doing!

    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Native Instruments\Native Access\WindowGeometry

The value is a @Rect() that keep the location and the size of the Native Access Window.

The last time I had the problem this value was "@Rect(-1051 227 800 600)", essentially saying that the windows should open 800x600 pixels in size, with the upper left corner positioned at -1051, 227 pixels - i.e. 227 pixels from the top and 1051 pixels to the left(!) of my screen. The windows *is* opened, but on a non-existent display to the left of my real display.

My solution is to change the value so that the window will open at the top left corner of my display. This is done by changing the first two numbers to zero - in my case I changed "@Rect(-1051 227 800 600)" to @Rect(0 0 800 600)". The next time you open Native Access, it opens where you can see it :)

Thanks for the reply Gunnar, but as you had said I probably shouldn't manipulate the registry as I'm not that familiar with it.

Too bad, as I now can not use Kontact any more due to this problem.

What you can do without being too adventurous (and if you by some reason decide to trust me :)) is to copy the following lines, paste them into an empty text document and save it as "NativeAccess.reg" (file name doesn't really matter as long as the extension is ".reg"). In the Explorer, right-click the file and select "Merge". You need to confirm that you want to do this. This will replace your current entry for the window location in the registry, and once that is done you can open Native Access and it should show up in the top left corner of your display.

=== Copy lines below (not including this line) ===

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Native Instruments\Native Access]
    "WindowGeometry"="@Rect(0 0 800 600)"

=== Copy lines above (not including this line) ===

Thanks Gunnar, I'm currently in contact with an NI tech support rep and just sent them a 'system report' which may lead to the problem. I'm waiting to hear back from them now. If however they are unable to resolve the problem, I have already copied your responses and may give them a try. Not being a 'computer guy' I'm a little apprehensive to alter the registry.

Thanks again for your help ...

    Bless You @

Bless You GunnarC. I used to solve this by disabling one of the screens whenever I need to use Native Access but you saved me a lot of headache with this solution.

    Thanks again :)

Do you have a dual monitor system? if so, Disable (or unplug one of the monitors)

    Peace,

You can try searching support, it may take a while, but there are quite a few threads/documents on the subject that have all kinds of different resolutions.

    Peace,
