Kontakt Factory Library, won't install because it says it needs more space, but there is more then enough! All the others are neatly stored on an external drive.

But the last one keeps needing an additional 5 Gb in order to start. It wants 37 Gb free to install, but I have over 67 free! I have freed as much as I could but this is crazy, no matter how much I remove he will keep asking for more!

I am running a macbook pro retina 13' late 2014, on MacOS high sierra 10.13.1

This is weird. After thinking "**** it!" I'll put my photo library back, there is less space available, but now it started downloading!

So solved I guess, by instead op freeing more space, but filling it again with other stuff, it finally started...

Remember there is the download file, then that gets uncompressed. So, a 10gb download might open 13gb file for 23gb total. Tricky!

    That's right,

Native Access requires some additional disc space to unpack and install the product properly. Before the installation starts, Native Access is looking for available disc space for both: the application itself and it's unpacking operations, and "reserves" some disc space for the installation process. After the installation is finished none of the extra disc space is being used.

    All the best,

    Stan,
    Native Acess Product Manager.

I have set the download and sample library locations to my external drive, but still cant download session hors pro because Native Access is still requesting space on the laptop drive.

    Note Mac OS sierra

As reported above by another user. I am trying to download Session Brass Pro. I had 40GB clear , it wanted 44. I cleared a heap, now have 70GM clear and the download and install locations are both set to the external drive. NA still says it needs 44GB, please clear another 5 gB. Its as if the first time you try to download it checks the drive, and then doesn't update.
And the explanation above makes no sense. If the download drive drive is external, why is there need for space on the main drive for decompressing - that happens on the external too. Or is the system putting the samples on the main drive and then moving them?

There's a fair few things going on here. its true, that the software doesn't smartly handle disk space estimates. it should progressively install what it can as reassess as it goes in order to limit the problem of downloads consuming disk space. It is a total space hog in this example.

It also doesn't pay attention to mac os's ability to have 'purgeable data' and the amount of disk space you should have free. that's the feature where your mac will delete local files if they are synced to the cloud (like photos, and documents), but if the user clicks the file, it will be downloaded on demand.

See the attached image... it needs 297GB, and is asking me to free up and additional 255GB! Thats crazy when if you look below in that image finder reports I have 425GB free! Disk utility shows that actually physically, theres 55GB free though, and 443GB is purgeable data. This is not cool!

Please NI, we have a need for you to look at the purgable data feature and correctly estimate the amount of free disk space available.

I'm also having this issue, has anyone found a solution for this yet? I've managed to install everything in Komplete 11 except the Kontakt Factory Library, which is saying it needs an additional 16GB even though I have 86GB available. This is very frustrating.

This is my solution, it sucks, but it works. I ensure I have my time machine backup up to date.
erase the whole drive and install mac os.
create a new user account (name must not have existed before).
install komplete and update everything under this new user.
using the migration assistant, migrate the old user without applications ticked. You should have enough space to do this if you did before.

Oof, that's intense. Seems NI would come up with something simpler but it's also the only solution I've heard that might actually work so thank you for responding!

NI did not fix the problem until today. I Have just deleted 180GB of files on my mac, having 223GB free in total, plus 128 on the secondary disk where I set the download folder to, and still Native Access wants 77GB more. Totally crazy, and a blocker for my working.

Even more weird: Now, I set both the content location and the download location to the external drive, but Native Access still insists on space on my Macintosh HD... I just want to install a single Kontakt Lib (Session Strings Pro 2), so there is not even an application to install. I have Kontakt 5 and Kontakt 6 already installed.

NI, please, please rework this part of your installer!

    Update / Solution:

starting with Mojave, Mac OS X comes with a new file system that supports "snapshots". Snapshots is a smart and efficient way to keep older versions of modified files, and also deleted files, on disk, until the snapshot is removed. They are used particularly for TimeMachine backups. So, if you have TimeMachine enabled, especially with the automatic backups, it will take snapshots from time to time throughout the day. If you now delete files to free up some space, the files will not be deleted on disk instantly, instead they will be kept in the snapshot(s). The disk space is freed only if all (!) snapshots that have been taken before (!) the deletion are removed. Mac OS X deletes old TimeMachine snapshots on the fly, in the background, when more disk space is consumed (for example when copying files to the disk in Finder). And as it can free up the space at any time in background, it reports it as "free" to the user (for example in Finder). The problem with Native Access is, that it does not know about this option, and as the disk space is indeed occupied by snapshots containing old data, it refuses to even start a download.

Solution a) If you did not yet delete files to free up space, but want to:
    - Go into the TimeMachine preferences and switch off automatic backups there.
    - Ensure there is no TimeMachine backup running
    - Free up as much disk space as you need
    - Install what you like
    - Don't forget to re-enable automatic TimeMachine backups!

    Solution b)
If you already deleted files with automatic backups switched on:

    - Ensure there is no TimeMachine backup running
    - Ensure that you will not need to restore any files out of local TimeMachine backups!
    - Open the terminal and use the command tmutil to remove all snapshots that were made before the deletion, as explained here: https://ppolyzos.com/2017/10/20/how-to-manually-delete-local-snapshots-from-time-machines-backups/
WARNING: This will remove your local TimeMachine backups, so you will not be able to restore any old version or deleted files out of the snapshots!!!
    - You can check the real free disk space with the command "df -h" or in the "disk util" / "Festplattendienstprogramm"
    - Install your software
    - If you need to free up more disk space: Walk through solution a)

    Hello
I tried these solutions but I don't have any backup active or snapshot saved
So I guessed I would be alright
Bust still when installing a library (Metropolis Ark 1, for instance) Even if I have 300 gb free and the library being only 64 it keeps on asking for more and Moree space. No matter what I do. I changed the paths and everything but still the same

Hi Andrea, on OSX you will see nowhere if there are snapshots of this kind. There could be some left even after you turn off TImeMachine. I suggest you open the "Terminal" application and paste the following command:

    sudo tmutil listlocalsnapshots /Volumes/

You will have to be administrator, and you will be asked for your password. If this command shows any item(s), it is likely that this consumes space... Sadly you don't see how much.

This is what the terminal says after I type the command and insert my pw:

"Snapshots for volume group containing disk /Volumes/:"

    And then nothing

Hm, then you're right, and snapshots are not your problem ... :-/ I experienced the libs to take almost double the installation size during installing, but not more... One thing you might try is the manual downloads instead of Native Access (maybe kontakt NI support for this option...)

The worst thing is that now it's downloading, but then I am afraid it will give the same message back again at around 80 %

Thanks! This works. Native Instruments, you have. serious installer problem here with Mojave. You need to sort it.
