I think NI should shoot for the fences....and come up with fully capable DAW surrounding the Maschine environment...what do you guys think? What do you guys would like to see?

No offense but why would you want a DAW from a company that rarely responds to bug posts and feature requests that are over two years old and gives no hints to when/where/why for software updates?

I love Kontakt and Maschine but come on... those are huge apps already and riddled with bugs.

I would have to agree...maschine updates are the truth but you never know when they are coming.

I have never had a piece of music software that has been updated as much as maschine has, and as often as maschine has, and all for free. I'd rather they make maschine the fully featured software instead of starting from square one in a new daw

I would be more interested in the teaming with Ableton or Avid or Steinberg to create something akin to the Ableton Serato Bridge to record and sync NI products together while leaving the DAW side of things to someone more experienced.

Specifically Maschine and Traktor which I feel should be more interactive with each other out of the box.

You haven's seen Reaper then ;)

To the OP - I have a DAW I like already, and it seems that most folks do. Also, developing a full-fledged DAW is a huge undertaking, and still you'll never please everyone. So the developer man-hours better be spent on improving Maschine as a pattern sequencer/sampler (which it really is). Some really basic things are lacking, and I hope NI is working on implementing them.

Well reaper is not built and sold by a large multi national company with plenty of mouths to feed across the globe.

They've also made it their mission to put their users first, listen to them and keep them informed with constant updates.

I don't expect that from NI since they're as you say, a global ubercorp that can buy apps they find interesting and fold them into new products. It would be nice if they communicated though.

They have everything in hand in their various products (Time stretch, grid, waveform view, mixer, VST support, sample editing, Eq and so on) just not in a single piece of software like many DAW already have.

For now they get a load of visibility on the market, sure they have something in mind. I'm sure they will do it. BUT will it be called Maschine? Who knows... I'll be ready when they will be.

    +1

I was just on about to start the same thread. Make Maschine a DAW based on the current layout (add a mixer and audio tracks and other necessary features) and call it a wrap. I don't think they should overcook it and try to all the feature of say Pro Tools to Maschine but IMO Maschine would be beast if it was more DAW like.

What? That's exactly what NI has done with Maschine.

Yeah I have a DAW I like but bringing more DAW like features to Maschine would allow you to get more done in the Maschine environment while keeping the "Maschine" workflow.....Maschine has an incredibly inspiring workflow IMO and bringing DAW features into the picture would only add to the inspiration.

I totally agree with this. I think NI should be focusing on getting Machine over the hump as a true Ableton killing DAW. Listen, I know Ableton is soooo much more than Maschine will ever be for many Ableton users, but, for us maschine people we just need a few more features to keep us in maschine stand alone and not need ableton for say, time stretching samples and the like. personally I would love to see multi-core support and time stretching in the future (hopefully sooner than later) and some more options for routing effects. If NI could get a better customer service vibe going on I would feel better about being a full NI user. Continuing to put the resources behind maschine updates would be a big boon to that image they (imo) need to create.

If you've followed the development for Maschine since it's released, NI has been on top of it with their support for Maschine with constant free updates, actively listening to user feedback and having an open channel of communication especially with the On The Record sessions. I have no doubt they will continue with the excellent job they've been doing. I'm sure they've been hard at work as usual and will surprise us with yet another groundbreaking update.

This has come up before. I am strongly against NI turning Maschine into something other than it is or wasting development resources on making another me too DAW. There are many features that have been requested that are yet to be implemented that compliment the nature of what Maschine is before trying to transform it into something completely different.

The statements about NI not listening or communicating to it's users are borderline blasphemy. Even though Reaper has bi-weekly updates, they are always a bunch of miscellaneous items and fixes for things they broke last week etc. I'm not knocking Reaper as it's a model of updates and listening to users but they charge when they do things like NI has done with Maschine updates. We get the on the record and official update status that goes beyond what you get from other companies. Gotta give props where do here.

I agree NI do their thing. I also think Thomas and Keir do a good job with the forum. Have you been to Propellerheads forum? :S
