Hi, I'm kind of stumped on how to create a Round Robin in Kontakt. Every time I try to set up a simple 2 sample round robin, I'll end up with only 1 of those 2 samples actually getting triggered every other time, whereas one sample will never play (so I'm on the right track I guess, just missing something simple).

So first question: can someone give me a fairly quick, but detailed walk thru on how to setup a round robin. These are release samples, but I imagine that shouldn't make a difference.

Any help with the above would be appreciated. If anyone can also help with any of the below questions, that'd be great too...

Does the round robin pool need to always have the same number of samples? I have 2 release samples for some notes, but for others I may have as many as 5. Would I be able to setup a single round robin group for the entire length of the keyboard with say up to 5 in the cycle, but have it only alternate between 2 on notes where there are only 2 release samples? Or would I need different groups for each varying round robin cycle length? Or even worse, would I have to use scripting?

Sorry for the questions, but I've never tried to create a large sample library before so I'm a total newb when it comes to using Kontakt for anything other than a sample playback.

You will have to use Group Start Options, as you probably already figured out. First, make sure you have Edit All Groups turned OFF. After that, create your round-robin groups and populate them with samples. For this example, let's say you have four groups: A, B, C, D.

Turn on Edit All Groups for a moment. Now go to Group Start Options, click on "always", and select "cycle round robin". Now deactivate Edit All Groups. Select group B (make sure there are no checkboxes next to groups A, C, D) only, and set position in RR chain to "2" for that group. Repeat procedure for groups C and D, setting them to "3" and "4" respectively. There you have your round robin.

Thanks, that worked like a charm!

I've figured out how to get multiple round robin samples going on the same key, but what if you want to have a 'duplicate' of that key (let's say with 5 different samples, each sample having it's own group) on a key next to it.

This is so you wouldn't have to play the same key each time when you're playing a part in your DAW. How would you set up the position of the round robin in that case?

    Evil,

You seem quite skilled in Kontakt. Could you address a question I have?

I have 8 versions of velocity 10 hi hats. 8 versions of velocity 5 hi hats. And 8 versions of velocity 2 hi hats. 24 Samples of hi hats, all unique files, three velocities.

Is it possible to assign all of these samples to a key, and force Kontakt to cycle through the velocities at random (or Robin) within the same velocities?

For example, if you were to hit the same velocity 8 times it would cycle through the all the samples in that velocity group before coming back around to the first.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks for your help!
