Need new external HD. Does 7200 make that big of a difference?

    Hey everyone,

One of my external HD's died and I need to replace it. Does a 7200rpm drive make that big of a difference of 5400rpm? I'm planning on keeping the OS & Logic X on the internal HD, with samples on external drive "A" and projects on external drive "B". From what I've read, this is the best way to have everything working the smoothest.

    Thanks for the help.

    Daniel

Yes, they do make a difference. Especially for sample streaming. If you can get an SSD, that'd be even better, of course.

Could that be the reason ( not having a SSD ) why Archetype Library patches sometimes sound different , while they are played exactly the same way ?

Nope, HD type doesn't matter really (well, it starts to matter when you push it to the limit of getting dropouts, of course). There's probably some randomization happening in the patches?

You must be right because even huge Libraries like symphonie string ensemble or Substance deliver constantly with the same quality at 30 or 40+ voices.
