Did you install the editor? It is simple but really good, better then the ones of MPD/MPK.
I also bought it yesterday only so didnt set it yet.
If you want to use it as expansion for other controllers- just for FX, you have 2 options-
    1.use learn in Traktor
2.if you want to have it all cleaner, like myself, will make a preset with Akai editor that will use same values as th main controller (SCS3d/m in my case)
This piece is the best value for money in the history of this industry, tested it with Drums, percussion - just like MPD + lights! cant believe I paid 49 Euro only.
I will use it for triggering, loops too, maybe more and then can always buy another one and have preset ready.
    P.S.
    another quick option-
open Traktor midi, find parameter you want, duplicate, use learn.

    Thanks Aviray!

I used Learn in Traktor and had some success, let me know what set up you end up having the best luck with.

    This thing is awesome

    Thanks Mate,

i own it since yesterday and its the perfect addition for my traktor scratch duo to do efx and loop stuff ... when i have a proper working tsi i'd upload it, although it has only the most important stuff like efx/loops und switching to abs/int mode!

unfortunately not because im not sure what would the best way be to use them to be honest. but i guess it should be possible..

this is a "quick n dirty version" but it works for me. use pads 5 and 1 for the modifier.
without hitting 5 or 1 you can control the efx1/2/3 on for each deck, knobs k1 and k5 are dry/wet and the rest is efx parameter.
when you hold pad5 you can control the loop section (6 and 2 loop in, 7 and 3 loop out),
pad1 hold is for play n sync on pads 6 and 2 and for switching to relative and int mode (7/3, 8/4). the upper row is for deck a, the second for deck b.

maybe someone likes the idea and may upgrade it because im a noob in traktor midi actually. ;)

Do you have to hit the pads hard to trigger them or can you press them?

Quite a few people claim they are pretty stiff and don't always register unless you hit them hard - not true then? If not i'll pick on or two up. Do they stay put or slide around when your twisting knobs or pressing pads? They look really light.

Unlike padKontrol -that I always had to tape- LPD does not move, even when used to play like a drum.

i also bought the akai a few days ago, now trying to map it as follows:
    -pad5: audio through deck A
    -pad1 audio through deck B
-pad6: activate fx on deck A (press to turn on/off)
-pad2: activate fx on deck B (press to turn on/off)
-knob1: select fx for deck A
    -knob3: dry/wet deck A
-knob5: select fx for deck B
    -knob7: dry/wet deck B

suggestions or tips will be heard as i'm new to midi :)
i'll link the mapping when its done in case anyone likes it

ps: pad & knob numbers are as on the lpd8

edit: after taking a look at denimis' mapping i figured that already had alot of what i wanted, so i started tweaking it. Can't audio through be mapped? Would be a shame

I just got the lpd 8 as well and I'm a complete beginner I'm not familiar with very many terms and I just want to play around and freestyle with my beat pads in traktor. I have the demo version and the mapping and its correlation with the lpd8 editor is extremely confusing to me (please excuse my stupidity). I know its a pain but if anyone would mind posting up a video or just a thorough write out of steps for mapping that would be great.

    I'm trying to accomplish this:

what i did is go in traktor preferences to controller mappings, select 'add in' and choose the feature you want to use, then click 'learn' and then push/turn the right pad/knob on your lpd8. Traktor will automatically map that function to that particular key.
It might get more complicated if you want to map a lot of functions but i don't know :)
    hope this helps!

    Hi out there!

Okay here is the deal. Im a knew on the hole dj'ing thing, and I got an Akai Lpd8 this week. I wanna use it as an FX controller for my Reloop Digital Jockey 2.

But I think I have the wrong "setup" for the editor (Software), because I've been following some guides, and the first thing I do, is to loade a certain preset, into the editor, then I open Traktor and add the maching TSI file to the Midi Setup.

But nothing happens, and it's like Traktor isent responding or reacting when I push any pads on the Lpd. The blue Midi button in the top isen't lighting up netiher.
Or If I try to use "Learn" under the mapping, nothing is happening when I try to push some of the pads?

I would really appreciate if anyone could or would try to help me

did you select 'generic midi controller' insted of 'keyboard' at the top of the controller options page? and then you should set in & out to akai lpd8 (should be recognised automatically)

cheers let me know if it worked

Djcreed thank you so much for useing time on my question...

Im not really sure what you mean by selecting "gerneric midi controller" is it in traktor?

Yeah my INput & OUTput is set to akai lpd8 (MPU-401 is it called in traktor), but the thing is I can only actived it when the editor is closed?

Another possible thing is witch USB i should select (Pops up when Im opening the editor), right now its set to MPU-401 (There is two other options to choose, Microsoft GS wavetable... and Microsoft Synthesizer)...

    You're my only hope :)

in traktor you go to preferences, then to the controller manager tab and then the 'device' option: add 'generic midi' and set the in&out ports to 'lpd8', it should really state the name of the pad.

maybe take a screenshot of your settings

    cheers mate
