    Hello
I am hoping someone can pass on their computer set-up...I made a mess on my old one...files and programs everywhere
this is a PC pent 4 Windows XP Battery SOON Kontakt with VST 5.1 SOON to be SX
I am mostly looking for file organization ideas...can I create a folder for "Music" and have all the programs in it instead of them ending up in alphabetical order under "Programs" ??
Should I get a Partition program and partion the 120 gb hard drive into smaller ones?
things like this would be a give me a great head start
    thanks

Skip, i start with a big ol YES! Partition that 120gb drive. A program like partition magic is good. Also if that drive is not a 7400rpm drive -> consider getting one. These are best for audio. As for your question on how to organize your folders, that is your call, but i like to have 3 drives (3 partitions in your case) and one is for the OS, one for my downloads and documents, and the other for Audio.

    Thanks for the reply, Chris
I looked at the new version 7.0 for Partition Magic but it is limited to 80 gb....any other programs that work well?
in terms of files; do I install the VST and Battery (etc) in one of the partitions or do they remain where the OP system is located? I have been looking for a "how to" but there are none that I,ve found....
    thanks

    Hi Skip,

I just did a bit of reading up on Partition magic and i didn't see any limitation on gig size? I am not sure of any other apps out there, this one has always came highly recommended. Call them and see if that 80gig limit will get in the way.

Outside of that, yes-> I would always install programs and program data such as vst dll's and the like all on the OS drive.
I have 3 drives in my system
    OS Drive
Data Drive (for downloads and documents)
    Audio Drive

    Thanks Chris
I did call PowerQuest and the 80gb is NOT the limit on the hard drive but rather the size limit on the partition...so you could have for example a 120 divided into: 80,20,20...
to follow on the file locations:
all my programs (ie Battery FM7 VST etc) I install as I usually do ...they are in the WindowXP partition under "programs"
in my "audio" partition, I save .song files , Battery drum kits, midi files and the like ???
in my third partiton, I put downloads, word processor docs and game programs etc

Is this a good way to set it up?
    thanks

your partition setup sounds groovy to me. As long as audio is not on your OS drive and you created another partition for your docs and downloads so those items are not in your audio partition, your looking sweet.

Good thing you called them, cous i didn't think there was a limit of 80gig's for that app- it is known as the best one out there, and that would not be cool if there was a limit like that on the HD size. But i can see 80gigs for one partition being relevent.
