    Hi,
I bought a new 2TB external SSD (SanDisk) with 1 GB / s data transfer rate. I had all that stuff on an old "mechanical hdd" (5 years old).
I copied my Komplete Ultimate content (ca. 200 GB) to the MacBookPro an then to the SSD within minutes (!) from MBP to SSD.
I set up the Native Access / Komplete / Maschine Libraries and all samples were found.
But it seems that the purging of samples takes longer than before. For the Giant it takes about a minute to load 150 MB !!!

I opened an Ableton Live Set with a Grandeur, Electric Sunburst, Vintage Organs and an AR 50s Drum Set.
When I open the Kontakt-Plugins in Ableton Live, every Instrument shows a yellow purge status and it is not possible to reload or "repurge" the samples. it just stays yellow...
When I play the song, I have a lot of dropouts (of course). But even when I play that instrument, the samples are not reloading...

i don't know what I'm doing wrong. I thought it should be faster than before to load all the samples from the SSD to the RAM...

Maybe you have some tipps for me?? settings in Kontakt??

    EDIT:
    Other points:
    - when I open a Kontakt-Plugin the disk usage is sometimes at 100%. Never had that before.
    - the fan of my MBP starts very early. so I think the CPU usage (or disk usage) is very high. Ableton Live says only 15-20% CPU usage. That is normal. Had that before. But not that high fan rpm!

    Ok, i figured something out:
The instruments used in the Live-Project were on my internal SSD on my MBP. So it took a few seconds to load the Electric Sunburst Deluxe.
I tried to load it from the old external HDD and then from the new external SSD. It takes a few minutes (!) to purge the samples from the external devices (both).
Why is the external SSD so slow? When I copy the files it takes a few seconds for a few GBs. Why is Kontakt not able to load the samples from the external SSD as fast as from the internal MBP SSD??

How is the external drive formatted?

You need to format ssd for your operating system as fat32 is awful for all daws, and esp for kontakt sample loading. Also, if you are connecting ssd to usb2 port vs usb3 port will be slower than tupical internal system bus. So for macos you want to format the ssd for mac. Use disk tools to check format.

I think for Mac the format is "Journaled" ,OP mentions MBP (Mac Book Pro?) And yes, USB Bus Speed could play a significant factor in load times especial for large libraries...

@ Se-B As others have said, check you format on the SSD. Apples optimized format for SSD is APFS and is recommended as long as the OS supports this later filesystem. If not then yes journalled is recommended. Not ExFat which is compatible with Windows and MacOS but is still not recommended.

    Thanks @all.
The format is ExFAT. So I will try to format it to an Apple optimized system.
The external SSD is connected via Thunderbolt to the MBP (=MacBookPro). So this is not the problem I think.

The SSD is now formatted in "Journal".
Loading of the samples is very fast and usage of disk is sometimes about 2-3% or 0%. so I think this works fine.
    Thanks at all again!
