    Hi,

I started with Komplete 2->Komplete Care 2005->Komplete Care 2006->Komplete 4 upgrade and waiting on Komplete 5. Currently I have 2 installs (systemID shows different on some instruments or it had previously, i.e. I didn't see 2 unique systemID's across all instruments.

    Current hardware:
HP DV9000t CTO Laptop (custom ordered/built) Core 2 Duo 2Gb mem (fastest they offered) 2.0Ghz CPU and since then I've upgraded the HD's from 100->120Gb for boot and added 2nd 120Gb to it. I have since replaced the 120Gb with a 250Gb due to being down to ~19Gb free and no K5 installed! So I needed space.

eMachines XP3200 Athlon box w/1Gb mem, M-Audio Delta66 w/Omni Studio breakout box, ATI 9800 Pro 256Mb video and 300/200Gb HD's (replaced 160 w/300 due to drive failure awhile back this year).

    What my plans are:
Build new system with all new hardware and try to use Acronis Universal Restore to see if system will a) come up and be stable and b) need minimal tweaking for drivers to get system all smoothed out so I don't have to do a complete reinstall. Planning on running XP Pro SP2 slipstream build on it. I have no plans to go to Vista in the near future.
System hardware: Thermaltake Armor case + Thermaltake 700W PSU, XFX 8800GTS Extreme 640Mb PCI-Express video, 4Gb Corsair Dominator running at 1066mhz speed, E6850 Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz CPU, a pair of SATA II 500Gb's probably RAID 0 for performance ;-) and Zalman 9700 NT CPU cooler. Should scream along nicely.

My concern is a) having to reinstall starting with Komplete 2 since K4 was an upgrade (I believe it requires Komplete 2... or Komplete 3) and issues related to Service Center and registration of the software products currently in there. I know there is a license limitation of 2 systems to be installed to but as I stated above earlier, systemid's weren't identical for each of the products, meaning I don't recall if there are only 2 pairs of systemid's. If so and they are the same for all products then it's just down to figuring out (via NI support on this one) which is related to what system. Part of the problem is I installed to both systems I think the same day...if I had done one on say 3/1/07 and the other on 3/8/07 I'd know what was installed on those dates, i.e. desktop first, then laptop.

What are the odds of a) this working and b) what do I have to do in order to get this installed on the new system should Acronis Uni-Restore not going well? What will I need to do in order to get this set up on my new system?

    Thanks!

    Mike

22 views and noone has any input on this? What's wrong with this picture? I would assume someone had some thoughts on this or have tried doing a restore to a different hardware configuration by now....

Mike, I think it's pretty much universally accepted that doing a system restore onto completely new hardware is not recommended.

Secondly, with all of the reported problems with NI's activation, I doubt anyone could predict with any certainty what might happen in your circumstance. I seem to recall reading somewhere in these forums, though, that the 2 system install limit was removed.

Having said all that, I'd also be curious whether you are forced to install starting with Komplete 2. It seems silly, but you might otherwise get the dreaded "No qualifying base product ..." error that many of us were getting.

I guess I'm not much help, but I do suggest starting with a clean version of Windows XP SP2, and then apply the dual-core patches.

    Hi KEv,

I think part of the issue then will be the no supported product issue if I was to install from scratch. I wonder if the upgrades would do like Windows and look on a CD if I have 2 drives and check for product there before installing. The universal restore is going to be an exercise anyways to see if a) it works and b) what system looks like when it's done. First off I have to get my hardware put together which may happen tonight, otherwise not till friday night/weekend. I want to get the cooler on it at the least tonight and situated on the board and if I get that far as I may as well install it to the case.

acronis system restore will never work on a new system. In every backup it takes into consideration bios elements. A new systen always has another bios.
For every system is a backup like programs as acronis will 100% work with the same system it was made on.

For the question you already have two system id's at NI.
Every installed NI program from for instance komplete makes another system id, they are not identical over all programs.

As you have seen on you private page at NI, only serials are there, system id numbers diappeared.

Recently NI changed his way of working. You can always activate with another system id, even a third or fourth system, but ! you may officially have a maximum of two systems installed with the NI software.

Activation however is not limited anymore to two system id, due to the many problems.
Thats the reason the system id have disappeared from your private NI page.

    hope this helps.

Hi, I'll be checking the link shortly. But I said I was using Universal Restore which came with True Image Workstation, not True Image Home. This is supposed to allow moving from one hardware platform to another and removes stuff from the HAL layer and other items to allow for this. Similar to using MS's sysprep to do a restore. It is different than a system restore and yes, that works fine on same platform you backed up and replaced a hard drive due to failure/need a bigger one. I'm going to try this anyways as it won't hurt and will see how it goes. Worse comes to worse I need to do a clean install. I've been pulling drivers as needed in the hopes of building a new slipstream XP Pro SP2 install too but I need to get them extracted and put into place.

    1. All of your existing activation/registration information is stored online in NI servers so you don't have to worry about installing older products before current versions.

The ony reason to install anything from Komplete 2 would be if there were products not included in Komplete 4 you want to use. For example, I recently uninstalled all NI products, then installed Intakt and Kompakt only from Komplete 3 (since they were not part of Komplete 4)

    2. I would NOT suggest trying to migrate existing installations over to a new computer. Since you are talking about new hardware, the NI installers/Service Center would certainly generate new System IDs.

    3. NI currently no longer enforces the "activate on only two computers at a time rule" so you don't need to try to "deactivate" an old computer. You can't to this anyway since NI took away users ability to perform this function.

I would simply suggest installing the most current "full product" you have which appears to be Komplete 4.

I installed Komplete 4 and that went fine. Patched everything to latest and will look at installing the 3 items from Komplete 5 soon. 50+MB of space just for Komplete 4 and patches! Good thing I updated my laptop HD to a 250Gb recently as I was down to 19Mb free on it sans Komplete 5 install!

So far the install went fine and Ableton Live was able to scan my VSTi Plugin directory (after patching Absyth 4 as it was hanging every time at the surroundsound dll).

    Hi all,

though taking system image and copy it back was always a problem for our older products (like Kompakt, Kontakt up to 2.1 etc.) particularly on Mac, this has been improved with all latest updates (like Kontakt 2.2 or higher, Reaktor 5.1.2 or higher etc.). The whole Komplete 5 package should now be able to deal with this technique.

    Marius,

In this situation, the system image is being copied to an entirely new system (different hardware), as opposed to "restoring" the image on the same computer.

Are you saying BOTH of these situations are now supported?

I understood that NI's activation was based on determining a specific "hardware profile" for each computer.

    Hi Martin,

thanks for pointing out the facts that I was missing. The information I gave was indeed for the same hardware profile. Due to our copy protection you can not use the same image for different computers.
