Hey all, check out these high gain metal tones

I bypassed the guitar rig 5 cabinet emulation and used several cab IRs from the killer tone cabs ultimate bundle after guitar rig in lecab vst.

Let me know what you think, enjoy.

For a good guitar tone I avoid Guitar Rig like the plague. In my opinion a real amp is a must for a good guitar tone, preferably one with a red box out. I myself use a Blackstar HT5R, which has builtin cab simulation for headphone jamming and recording.

If it's not possible to use a real amp, here's an alternative for Metal, which only uses free VSTs:

    Why so difficult?
Just use the Reflektor for IRs !
Try my Preset for blending IR Cabs:

I think you are being too harsh here, yeah I agree after 5 years or so Guitar Rig is lagging behind by now but still with some imagination (tricks that i dont want to share :)) it's still possible to get decent tones.

Yeah, maybe, but it's just my opinion, so don't mind ;)

Yes, but with how much hassle ... and decent isn't "great".

Yep, I also feel that GR has lost its edge... even free ampsims are killing it easily in quality of emulation. Let's not mention how awesome S-Gear 2 and Recabinet 4 sound, either... GR can't touch that unfortunately.

Btw ... I saw this by chance ... might be a great sounding and affordable alternative to VSTs:

The Blackstar HT-Metal is a tube driven distortion pedal with cab simulation, that can directly go into your audio interface and will achive similar recording quality as I have with my HT5R amp's red box out, but for half the price.
