That sounds like Soundsonline (EastWest) forums. Or Steinberg. Try mentioning Pianoteq on SOL forums, hahah. :D

Anyways don't worry about that here. I believe you can freely mention GrooveMonkee, OddBeats, and whatever else is out there.

It was EastWest. Well, then....check out Toontrack MIDI files. They're very good. I wasn't impressed with GrooveMonkee.

I'm finding that sounds from one VST don't always meet your need. I do production music in several genres and what works for one genre doesn't always work for another. Even within a genre, you want flexibility. For example, Superior Drummer 2 worked on a track I did a while back, but I liked the sound of Studio Drummer on the song better after checking it out and replaced the track. For "urban pop" tunes, the processed production kits in Battery work well where "real" drums sounds don't do as good a job. Finally, I understand some people feel Maschine can do anything, but I mainly use its sounds for hip-hop grooves. It's always good to have multiple tools in the shed if you have multiple needs.

Yeah, cubase is a fine product but that is the single worst forum in existence.

I am using Studio Drummer with my Alesis DM6 edrums. The sounds are terrific, truly awesome, however the snare is incredibly sensitive. Unless I hit the snare very lightly I'm getting a very hard cutting snare sound. I have to hit very lightly to achieve something softer. This is not the case with Abbey Road drums, is there a way to alter the sensitivity? I have looked at the interface and the velocity curves are not helpful, as it's the threshold at which the loud snare sounds kick in is too low.

It creates a very unnatural playing style, having to hit so lightly on the snare.

    Thanks,

    Ben

    i just installed it.
one question: is it possible to route the kik, snare, tom, hat, room, ambient, etc audio towards different kontakt 5 output?
i would like to mix the drum volume in the sequencer, and not inside the instrument, so i would like to route the different channel to different K5 output.
    thanks!

You should be OK - have a look at section 3.2.5 in the Manual.

if anybody looking to multi out into pro tools my best guess would be record it in midi and then print it into audio.

the way to do this is: create either a mono/stereo instrument track and assign studio drummer into this track. select the desire kit you want to use.

let's trigger the kick drum first as midi. right click the instrument track and select 'open midi editor.' then go into the keyboard mapping and highlight your kick there. once you finish mapping your kick then create an audio track. if you create the instrument track as stereo (where studio drummer is assigned to) then you should also create a stereo audio track. if mono then create mono.

now on your instrument track you want to select the output to a bus. in this example bus 1-2. then on your new audio channel you just created, select the input to 1-2 as well. armed record the audio track and select record on your transport panel then press play. this will print your midi (instrument track) into the audio track as audio. =)

do that for every drum track - kick, snare, hats, etc.

there is no need to route the mixer inside kontakt into pro tools. just print 1 by 1 as above for all of your drum tracks.

Is anyone else missing the Template Kits?

I'd rather not have to unload each piece and create my own for each kit if they're hiding somewhere. It's a pain to unload all but the kick or snare when only sample replacing with Studio Drummer.

Odd. I specifically remember seeing that question asked somewhere but can't remember where.

I have not done the update, but I do not seem to have any templates. Of course it's possible I just don't know what I'm doing yet.

I called NI tech support about this .
They said They didn't know why there template presets are not included.
I just loaded the Full kits then unloaded all the kit pieces including all percussion ( tamb cowbell claps )
Then saved it as Garadge kit template. then do the same for the other 2 kits , and you are good to go.
Just for fun before I posted here , I loaded my "template Kit" to see how much memory it was taken , and it showed 0 memory, no nothing is "hidden ".

Takes 10 minutes, and then you have them for now on out.
Great for subbing out ride cymbals from the other kits , or kicks etc...
Just unload the ride cymbal from the "fully loaded kit" then open up a seperate template kit and only load that ride cybal.
Just be sure that the template kit has it's midi channel set to the same as the full kit.

So I started to make my Template Kits.

The Garage Kit went fine. But . . .

Now I cannot save any instruments at all. Awesome.
I'm using Kontakt 5.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 if anyone has any suggestions.

When I was just listening to the Studio Drummer demo tracks on the NI website I started to wonder how these drums are recorded. Does NI have a electronic drumkit in their studios that are hooked up via midi to Studio Drummer? Or did it happen with triggers? or do they have a Maschine magician in the house that played it like that. Love to know.

I ordered Studio Drummer yesterday, and got two confirmation emails that my order went through okay, also stating a download link would be provided in a separate email. I definitely ordered this via the "Instant Gratification" system, whereas I assumed my download would be immediate. But I'm still waiting (quite impatiently I might add). I sent a question to Customer Support, but being Saturday and all I don't think I'll hear anything til Monday.

Can anyone confirm that they got an instant download access (within a few hours) when purchasing Studio Drummer? WAHHHH! I want it now!

Usually when I order online I get access to a DL immediately. It's usually the SN that I don't get until later.......sounds like you've got the opposite problem?

Can you just log on to your account and find it there? I don't really know I just know that feeling when you can't get your new toy :)

The order is listed in my account page, but under where it says "download", it's just a blank section.
    ---
Oh, duh! I went through the order process again to see if I made a mistake, and sure enough I realized that I ordered the boxed version and not the download version. So I went through with the second order, just so I could download it now, and requested a refund for the boxed version. Hopefully that won't be a problem.

But the most important part is that within 57 minutes I'll have Studio Drummer. Yea! (yes, I know being a software junkie is pretty pathetic)
