Stopped reading there. Enjoy your fantasies Martin. For some reason you clearly find them preferable to reality. I suppose it could have something to do with a lack of reading comprehension skills, which you compensate for - at least in the posts above - through a reflexive retreat into unwarranted assumptions, sweeping generalizations, exaggeration and logical fallacy. Who knows (or cares) - if I want to waste my time, there are far more entertaining ways.

    cheers,

Sure you did. Right. I really believe you.

I guess this is all you can do since you can't refute my points.

Hopefully if you ever do write a book you will have a publisher who can correct your incorrect thinking.

Martin, your 'points' - which were actually fantasies involving a novel and erroneous view of market-driven economics, consistent distortion of what I wrote, and a self-contradictory view regarding the mindset of those who engage in on-line IP piracy - were already refuted completely earlier in the thread.

By definition, it would be a waste of time writing anything further to refute your rationalization of our fantasies, which is all the preceding post could possibly contain. For that very reason - and your penchant for accusation, generalization, exaggeration, putting words in others' mouths and making unwarranted assumptions (see above on your hilarious boner regarding Mike's relationship with Castlewood) - I didn't read it. No, really. Anyone who cares can simply read the preceding exchanges to see why. Perhaps they can figure out your motivation for insinuating yourself into this conversation in the first place, since you clearly had - and have - nothing of substance to add other than your fantasies about economics and piracy. Your follow-up would of course be a rationalization of your rationalization, and so on. Thanks, I'll pass.

My curiosity - which was directed to Mike, as the author of the book - still revolves around what motivates a publisher to over-price a book like this in a 'down' economy, and why anyone would be so naive and Luddite as to think the more expensive publishing route - paper - could ever be justified by concerns about bit torrent "piracy" (especially with respect to the Kindle). I addressed the questions to Mike - not you - because he has a relationship with the publisher. You don't. Mike is far more likely to know the actual reasoning involved in the decisions. You have only your ill-informed speculation, generalizations, accusations and sometimes-hilarious assumptions. Next time I suggest you simply keep those to yourself and avoid the inevitable embarrassment.

Yes, you may have the last word, since you seem possessed of (or, by) an ego which demands it.

    cheers,

Claiming you refuted my points is not the same as actually doing so.

How was that a "hilarious boner"?

I wasn't far off. Castlewood Music is primarily focused on Orchestration and Orchestral Services and Mike Novy is listed as their Chief Composer/ Senior Orchestrator.

Curiousity? HA! You simply wanted to complain about the price of the book and complain why it was not availalble in electronic format for an even cheaper price. I guess you thought you were being "smart", but both Mike and I easily saw through your "curiousity". You could have shouted "YOUR BOOK IS TERRIBLY OVERPRICED" and it would have had the same effect.

I am not embarrased at all. You should note that Mike's responses align perfectly with mine:
-- he is against releasing the book in electronic format (obviously due to piracy concerns)
-- he believes his book is priced fairly

This of course contrasts with your assertions:
-- you think the book shold be released in electronic format (and you can't understand why anyone would not do so -- this implies closed-off thinking)
-- you believe the book is overpriced (and you somehow think this book should be compared to mass-market technical books -- this again implies closed-off thinking, i.e. your perspective is the only one possible)

    Since you offered...

Again, note that Mike (the author) totally disagrees with your assertions. Therefore your logic and powers of persuasion are lacking (except in your own mind).

Finally, again I challenge you to write and publish your own book, releasing it in both paperback and electronically. If you do, I am sure you will receive a much needed education about book publishing.

    price reduced

Folks who were balking at the high price of this book may be pleased to know that Amazon has dropped the price by almost $15, which means it's lower cost but still free shipping.

I saw the new price a couple days ago and just about hit the buy button. Seems like a good price but just not sure how much time I could spend on KSP and still have time for everything else.

I do find that the books cover quickly captures my attention as I am curious to what the attractive young lady is, or is not, wearing.

Going to amazon right now to buy the book.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

Received the book today and I am very glad I purchased it. Have not spent much time with it yet but the first thing I noticed was the, easy to read, large print and several pictures that helps describe a topic. The first few chapters are loaded with examples.

I really have no intention of becoming a KSP programmer but the info covered gives even the casual Kontakt 4 user a much better idea of what is happening under the hood.

I do see myself being able to customize the user interface using the examples that Mike has provided.

If you have a desire to know more about the guts of Kontakt, other than just loading a library and playing, the book is a 'Must Buy'

    Great job Mike!

    Kind regards,
    Rick Tucker

Martin / UserZero: I'd rather be typing KSP scripts, but thanks for keeping the thread current -- I missed this.

The price drop at Amazon.com is good news indeed!
We (German authors and publishers) have no influence
on price developing outside Germany. There is absolutely no control.

Thanks all for your positive comments.
This give me power for future work. Thank you!

    Hi Mike

Just bought your book and I think it's great. I do have a past as a programmer, so i guess that makes things easier, but the book helps a lot to get up and running!

I will be buying this book for sure considering the dearth of info about Kontakt out there.

Just to give my 2 cents.

Reading kontakt scripting manual that comes with K3 and am finding it is not enough for what I need . No resources on the internet (or barely any). Looked at the demo of the book ksp scripting 1 and have found that it appears to not cover the topic extensively.
I Myself am dumb and new to scripting; therefore need things explained to me on an elementary level that can get the results intended. There is a thirst for knowledge but no-one to fill the cup. We understand that scripting is a black art and probably quite difficult to explain to an intended audience. If someone brings out a 10,000 page book for scripting this killer app (kontakt), please let us know. As it goes, I can't bring myself to spend £35 on a 367 page book. Help !@@

Trying to write and/or understanding a script, having a manual on ksp or not, without having any knowledge in programming, is probably very hard.
Being a programming language, anyone who wants to use it should learn a bit about programming in general. To understand the concept behind selection, iteration and sequence is a good thing.

Do not judge the whole book by these few samples on the web only
    (http://castlewood-music.com/ksp-scripting_vol1_preview.php).
Chapter 2 explains all you need step by step, even if you are new to programming.
See table of contents in that extract.

It explains what scripting means in general and what they are used for.
Further on it is explained, how such a script looks like.

If you follow chapter by chapter you will learn using KSP comands
in order to create own Kontakt scripts. But you have to try those examples by your own.

And you need practise, practise, practise. Don't expect to be an expert within 2h.
You need weeks of exercises to develope scripts blindfolded. So this book is, after you have completed your basic class (chapter 2), a really good reference with lots of examples.

Just bought this from Amazon. Can't wait to get it. This is Vol. 1, so should we assume there will be a Vol. 2?
