I didn't, but you can check it by analysing just one for example.

Ok I tested it with a bunch of tracks and it seemed to work fine. Once I analysed the tracks, i then chose to 'write tags to file' - the one observation I will make however, is that it wrote the Key name to the front of the comment field and not to the Key field.

If you go into the prefs you will see in the 'Tagging' section a field labelled Key Tag - you can change this to 'Overwrite' and when you then go to write key tags to the file, it will place the tags in the Key tag column. Once you re-open traktor, the key column will be populated by the new key tag!

Awesome - great work here :D:D

Has anyone tested its reliability against mixed in key or other such software?

There's a comparison image in this thread somewhere. It performed just as well as MIK. (70% accuracy)

MIK needs an internet connection for analysis - god only knows why ...
Keyfinder seems to work faster and you can adjust the CPU load to your personal and temporarly needs.

    AND: Keyfinder is donateware!

    Good evening.

    KeyFinder v1.17 is now available.

    This version includes:
    * Hack for the key tag in iTunes metadata (AAC, ALAC etc)
    * Localisable interface, with translations for French and Swedish users: more to follow.
    * Updated library binaries
    * Various small changes

As always, any feedback welcome. And if you have the linguistic chops to write a translation of the GUI into your language, let me know (it's easy; no programming knowledge is required).

This release also marks KeyFinder's first birthday; I launched it a year ago today. After a slow start, it's been downloaded more than 5000 times in its first year, by users in 120 countries. I've been thoroughly humbled by the response to my little app, and having it used by hundreds of DJs has been very rewarding. I've also had tons of feedback, which has been fascinating at least as many times as it's been infuriating. So in short, thank you all so much for your support!

And if you want to thank me in return, why not drop a small PayPal donation alongside your next download, so I can celebrate this auspicious occasion in some style? =)

ibsh - great work - have been testing it out - is there a harmony wheel similar to the one mixed in key uses to explain what keys mix well with others?

In KFs preferences you can easy change and enter your specific style of the displayed key. I changed the custom list to the Chamelot system (this colorful clock of harmony) :)

hey so in the preferences it lists all the KEYS.

    and its A & Am...and so on...

    is the m..major? or minor?

and the ones with the Bb or Dbm or Ebm....the b means flat correct?

    hmm...
I guess "A" is A major, "Am" is A minor..
but do a little google search to be sure.

    @ ibsh,

thank you so much for making this program available to everyone with no cost. everyone appreciates what you're effort.

    i have 1 question:

currently i am on the windows version of 1.17. and i noticed this.
when i have my mp3 file, "right click" "properties" and under the "details" tab...this is where i edit all my tags.

but after running the key detector then "Ctrl+T" *write key to file*. i can no longer able to edit the tab i described above. everything is planked out.

is there a reason for that?

    thanks

Kensic, this is covered in the FAQ; it's because KF writes ID3 v2.4 which Windows can't understand. There are various ways around it.

It's clear now, thanks! Can you suggest way to see updated tags in iTunes?

    UPD. I found this way:
"Fire up Script Editor (which is under Applications/AppleScript, but it will work with TextEdit). Paste the following code, then save as a Script called /Library/iTunes/Scripts/Refresh.scpt (create the Scripts directory if it doesn't already exist).

    tell application "iTunes"
    refresh selection
    end tell
Now, inside iTunes, you should see a Scripts menu (an icon of a scroll, just left of Help). The "Refresh" item on that menu will force it to re-read the tags for all tracks that you have selected."

It really works but I still can see than some of fields are empty in iTunes

Ibrahim, can you observe such a problem?

    Hei ibsh,

every time i start KeyFinder 1.17, 1.16, ... it crashs after 3-10 seconds.
I have Windows 7 64 Bit. Any conclusion for me?

    Mfg Storm

hey ibsh! i know this is unlikely but i just read about the new mixed in key getting an energy level which sounds awesome and was wondering if there was any way in which you could incorporate this into keyfinder

It's an idea I toyed with a few months ago, as it's one of the ways I manually classify my tracks. But the truth is my way of doing things is very subjective and I couldn't come up with a satisfactory way of determining it with an algorithm.

The best I managed was to classify tracks as to their rough spectral content. It's not useless, and certainly allows for smoother mixes with less need to manually EQ, but I never got round to putting it into KF as it's kinda hard to simplify.

Anyway, be cool to see what MIK came up with.
