New open source key detection tool

Hi Ibsh, thanks for a great tool!

Only problem I am having is after doing a batch analyise, I select all the tracks and right click > Write Keys to file but it comes up with this:

"Data written to 0 tag(s) and 0 filename(s)".

Am I doing something wrong? How can I fix this?

Once again thanks for such a helpful tool, hopefully i can get it to work for me!

Are the keys shown in the browser list of KF, or did you acticate the option to "write tag files after analysis" in KFs preferences?

It does not write identical tags twiche..

Where does KF save the custom key codes, can't locate "user settings" file, would be cool not to retype the custom codes after pc change, thanks!

 

Windows: in the registry
OSX: ~/Library/Preferences

Actually the registry thing on Windows is apparently causing some of the issues Win users are having; something wrong with the library I'm using or the way I'm using it. So that may change, but probably not soon.

Aha, Traktor sneaked their own key detection algorithm into the latest point release! It's damn good too, same league as KeyFinder and MIK (and a high number of exact matches too). Gonna have to up my game =)

Love the key-sorting-colour-coding thing, too.

 

Damn it! Did they ask you to work on it? I see you have done some tests on it and it's pretty good! I'm just downloading the new updates!

 

I think they have enough talented people of their own =)

how are the results on this program compares to traktor's keys.?

KeyFinder 1.18 is coming along great; in fact I would have released it a couple of months ago, but I just don't have the time or the skill to keep the Windows version going, and I'd rather not get out of sync with the Mac release.

So, if you are (or you know) a Windows developer with Qt experience, or a cross-compilation guru, please get in touch via the link on the website! The future of the Windows port depends on you!

For the rest of you, I hope to have a swanky new version available soon.

 

Hey hey. Very sorry for the long silence, but the new version 1.18 is now available, for Mac only.

This includes:
* a slightly faster analysis process, with a much, much smaller memory footprint; it should be easier to run KF alongside other apps now (although it's still very CPU intensive, obviously)
* a hack for the key tag in FLAC files, using the de facto standard among DJ apps
* the preservation of ID3 v2.3 tags, rather than automatically upgrading them to v2.4
* lots of new localisations
* a load of bug fixes and minor new features.

The delay has been largely due to my working with a DJ software house to integrate the KeyFinder algorithm into their packages. The upside of this means that all the improvements I've made for them get passed on to you!

Also... this release is not for Windows. I still haven't got the time or the interest to do the Windows work, so it may be a long time coming unless a Windows dev steps up to help out. Sorry about that.

Right, here are two things I didn't expect to be saying quite so soon:

* KeyFinder 1.19 is now available. It's just a patch release, I found a weird bug with certain decoders.

* After many, many hours of poking and prodding, it's available for Windows, sort of. As always, I can't guarantee complete compatibility, or even that it'll work on your machine. It doesn't work on my old XP laptop. But hopefully it's better than nothing; give it a try and see how you get on.

 

Anyone who had an immediate crash from yesterday's Windows build, please try downloading again, I've added some missed dependencies to the package. Works on all my Windows boxes now.

 

KeyFinder 1.20 is now available.

This version allows you to write to the Title, Artist and Album tags, which has often been requested, though I do not know why =)
It also fixes the frame rate exception with video files, and should no longer corrupt mp4 tags.

I'm using custom key with camelot key, if you want (maybe mixedinkey team not happy) I have image for configure it.

Only one question, with new update is better re-scan my library or not?

There are plenty of images floating around for Camelot mappings, thanks.

There's no need to rescan; there have been minor changes to analysis results, but they affect less than 1% of tracks.

If the algorithm ever changes in a way that necessitates a full rescan, I will say so loud and clear, don't worry.

 

v1.21 is up

It fixes a few memory leaks, and a bug with the cmd+comma sequence on Mac localisations.
Everything else is background stuff to make my life easier, and will hopefully lead to fewer bugs in the future =)
