Hi there, can anyone confirm or give advice on my dilema, im currently on i3 laptop and i cant use trk pro 3 due to pc specs.
So i am considering either a 2017 macbook pro base model i5 or a HP i7 laptop both have ssd. i have tried to research both but im going in cirlcles!.it appears both options would suit traktor pro 3 on paper or specs wise, or indeed even a mackbook air 2017 soley to dj with. But i would greatly appreaciate your advice, i look forward to your replies, thank you.

    Hello,

you don't need a mac for this, save money and buy a i7 HP (HP 250 G7 6HM86ES), this one I recommend a friend and he also use it to DJ and for Ableton and he is absolutely happy.

I use a Dell XPS15 and it is a fantastic piece of kit.

If you can afford the base model Mac, get the Mac. They last a long time and you will get your moneys worth.
All the pcs I've had broke withing 2 to 4 years. My 2012 MacBook Pro is still going strong and runs tractor just fine.

I'd stay away from Macs especially if you're on a budget.
I'd also stay away from HP laptops as they have a horrid track record of support of known issues. (This was 5-10 years ago) Don't know if they're better now because I've stayed away.

I'd get a PC laptop tho as there are many other options out and you can upgrade/configure/repair them yourself without paying a "genius". I still lmfao at that.

That said, traktor isn't a heavy program but your collection+programs may take up space on a smaller drive so If you can get one w/2 Drive bays would be optimal and would perform better.
Also, I would NOT use any laptops built in soundcard so look for an external or a controller with one in it...

BIG thank you to all who have given your time and experince and advice, I have for time being bought a ipad air 2019 to use djaypro and other dj apps not the same traktor pro 3 or 2 which i feel at home on. But for time being i have found a work around with my i3 laptop which runs trk pro 2 ok but strugles with 3. but also i have found having my music playlists on usb 3 is working without glitching so far. i have researched a lot and have put a new computer mac or windows on hold for a few months. my djing is a hobby so i am not desperate for performance perfection lol. This is a good forum for the dj community as a whole, and will take an interst in its threads.
i have learned that solid state drives are the way forward with i5 or higher when i do buy my next music PC or Mac. ;)
