Thanks. I found a way that sort of works for me. In Reaper I can create a midi track and route it to an audio track, then place Reapers virtual midi keyboard on the midi input and use that to switch the Finger fx. It is setup by default to use the computer keyboard so I just hit a key and it plays the effect I want. The only downside is having to keep a finger on the computer keyboard as when I release the key it stops playing the effect - is there a way to make The Finger keep playing the effect even when my finger is released till I hit another key? (then I can have both hands for playing). The other downside to this is no velocity control.

ps I can do keyboard splits already using my Creamware system but I don't like giving over keyboard space to something else - I tend to play using the full range (and often wish I had more keys)

I do have a second keyboard though - might try that - haven't used it for years

A list of The Finger presets?

    Hi All

Great product but like a few other users didn't read the notes about needing Reaktor to edit and manage The Finger. Ah well.

In the meantime is there a list of every key effect of every Finger preset so I know preceisely what each one is supposed to do rather than just hit it and guess?

    Cheers.
    Si

I asked that six months ago and others have.....I haven't seen the answer.
I do regret buying this product for that reason as I don't have the time to go through each key then write them down for future use.....a completely example of a product that has great support from its developer is for instance Deep Freq, Denis is on at least another forum answering all questions.....

Exactly where I'm coming from, Richard! Come on Tim (and NI) - you must have some docs SOMEWHERE that list what each MIDI key for every Finger preset does! Please?

(And funnily enough also considered SB Artillery 2 although it was twice the price. Now I now why...)

same thing with me. I was going to buy Artillery 2 then finger came out and I bought it instead and have yet to use it....would have definitely gotten more use out of artillery..

This is like me making my own patch for my own use that has features and programming that are great for me to work with, then I decide I am going to sell it, but I am never going to tell others how to use these features and how they are programmed, let them figure it out themselves.

Hear, hear. Completely agree. So I reiterate - does anyone from NI read this thread? Surely there must be some test docs or something for us to look at! PLEASE!

a company can do better than that

    Hi,
as new and enthusiastic user of Kontakt, Absynth and "Finger", I am more than disappointed with what I see here in this thread, staged (or better NOT staged) by NI and Tim Exile. This is like giving litterally the finger to customers. There are so many people using it obviously, a lot of them are happy about it and writing here.

From a commercial standpoint, NI and Tim should be happy about it. Nothing is better marketing than happy people writing about a great product.

But the critique about the manual is more than right. The abscence of any information besides "How to Install" is absolutely poor product quality.

And as a developer, should someone with such an audience like Tim Exile not more than happy to answer this forum questions and be in a dialogue with the user community.

In my real life, without music, I am professionall blogger at one of the largest enterprise communities. Neither me nor my colleagues would ever dare to leave comments unanswered and stop dialogues with readers and customers. A product in these days of Internet is a always a product with a public community - and communities can make or break a brand, quicker as some companies would anticipate.

Bottom line is, I don't get the culture of the NI forums and why there is no dialogue with the makers of "The Finger", why both (NI and Tim) are letting slip a chance of a dialogue with paying customers.

And the open question is, why is there no list of effects?

I've just started playing around with KORE player and the available freebie packs and am impressed enough to start thinking about paying money for extra packs.

To add weight to some of the recent views in this thread, NI can now consider me scared off of this product. I don't have as much time as I would like to learn by trial and error, so for me, good documentation is as important as the quality of the sounds.

Thanks to the posters that have saved me some time, money and frustration by sharing their experience!

    Dear Finger lovers,

Rest assured that we at NI are listening. While providing a list of all octaves of all presets is a bit overwhelming (not to mention less usable than experimentation), there is something coming in the not so far future that I hope will solve all your problems. In the mean time, let the preset names be your guide. We dedicated certain presets to certain types of effects/music just to make it easier to use. :)

Also about sending midi to an effect in a host: the manual clarifies the setup in the most common host; the forum is your friend... the people here are very wise and helpful; there are also the twister knobs to trigger 48 effects when you can't or don't want to connect a keyboard.

I'm here to help. Fire away.;)

    Love,
    Matt

    Hi Matt

Thanks for the reply - as you can imagine we were all getting a bit frustrated. Nice to see the boards ar ebeing monitored. I'd just like to address a couple of points in your reply however.

    1. I disagree that documenting all octaves for all presets will take a long time - maybe a couple of days at most of concentrated effort. (You may also be able to extract the code behind the presets and do this a lot quicker but obviously I'm not familar with how the system works 'under the covers'.) The point is that this software should not have been released in this form with either no visual aid or any documentation, as a number of unhappy customers will confirm. (I'm not going to take a best guess at what each preset does - I don't work that way.) I hope that NI learns from this and does not release unsupported software in a similar manner again.

    2. Don't hint at something that may appear: tell us what it is! Either you've assigned resources and created a plan so you will know what it is and when the release date is or you haven't, and it's just therfore so much vapourware. Hinting at a nebulous 'something' doesn't satisfy anyone and just makes NI look poor.

I hope this is seen as positive criticism and that you can learn from this experience and provide answers. So please tell us: when can documentation be provided (in whatever form), and what and when will this software panacea arrive?

    Thanks
    Simon

    Hey guys & gals,

I proudly present the Kore Preset Specification for the Finger.
Please note that just the effect type is listed; there are several other parameters per key that shape the sound (envelopes, modulation amounts, etc.). This instrument really was designed to be played with in an experimental way. Press, Layer, Twist, use the mod wheel, use the built in arpeggio and sequences, etc.
Nonetheless, I hope this list of presets is useful to find the effect you are looking for.

    Best wishes from Berlin,
    Matt

Hooray. Thanks Matt. (I stand corrected - it took less than a couple of days ;-) )

Now don't let it happen again!

Thanks Matt for the info, now can these be triggered to hold using Kore Player using Ableton Live or Logic Express? And then relesed by pressing another key or same key?

Thanks Matt, it's great to see the patch info, as a non-Finger owner - it makes me more interested in potentially buying it.

I quite understand what you mean by "triggered to hold". :S
When you play a note routed to Kore, an effect is put in the audio path, if you hold a new note you layer that new effect on top. So you can dynamically rout and layer effects of your choice! :D
