Getting audio from Traktor to Reaktor

Hi everybody, I have a question for you...

I am using The Finger in Reaktor to modulate the audio from Traktor Scratch Pro.
So far it's doing great, there's almost no latency (Traktor 2,5 ms, Reaktor 7 ms) considering the setup... Here's the problem...
I have my mixer's master channel coming to audio 8 dj to input 7,8, and coming out the same outputs back to the channel 4 on my mixer.
Is there any way of routing audio internally from Traktor to Reaktor, bypassing the physical ins and outs? I know there's a send and return on the mixer but I don't have adapters and think there is another way of doing it.

And how the feck do you get Reaktor listen to midi clock from Traktor? I put the IAC driver on and the "send midi clock" in Traktor.

    Thank you!

Regardless of the Finger, I just find using Kore 2 (software edition here) more useful than the free player.

I just have to say that The Finger is a must have for anyone doing serious djing, now that I have it I cannot believe that just a few months ago I was thinking of getting the Pioneer fx processor. So happy I didn't get it, The Finger is a 1000 times better!

TheFinger and a disagreement over middle C

I've been hooking up my MIDI sequencer to generate some probabilistic effect chains for The Finger and noticed that things weren't working as I'd expected. I'd mapped out the effects I wanted and was mapping those to sequencer cells but getting different, jarring, effects on playback.

With TheFinger opened I happened to notice that my sequencer playing F#4 which should be triggering a "Boost" was actually triggering F#3 and "Sync Gate".

I checked my sequencer and both MIDI monitor and Logic agree it's generating F#4. Testing with my keyboard playing middle C, again MIDI monitor and Logic both recognizeC4, yet The Finger is treating it as C3.

I realize that there is an issue with the MIDI standard not defining whether middle C means C3, C4, or C5. I have my keyboard, Elysium sequencer, and Logic all setup for middle C = C4 so Reaktor/The Finger is, for me, out of step.

Is there any way for me to get The Finger to treat middle C as C4 and not C3?

    Thanks.

    Matt

Hi Peter. Don't have The Finger myself, but I can tell you that with some other Reaktor-centric koresounds you have to go down a level to get to the editable section.

The finger Kore Sounds seem to be like this. The sounds tend to contain several source channels with step sequencers/arpeggiators and the 3rd channel usually contains the actual Reaktor instance.

unfortunately this doesn't work here, see the screenshots. Or am I missing something?
Loading the finger in reactor and editing it works, I don't understand this at all ...

    i got the Finger! mlnr

for a while i thought the logo at the top right of the screen was giving me the finger only for a split second when i looked at it. really freaked me out but then i watched it for a bit and realised it wasnt. :)

its brilliant and i've barely looked away from it for the past 4 hours. i think the velocity features are its biggest strengths. it would be great if after touch could implimented in the same way. hold a key down then pressing it again but harder for more control could be exciting.

i dig the twisters too. top notch.

    rave on

very nice, thanks NI and Tim Exile, as well as all the people that provided the great info in here.

I got the finger to work, and aside from it giving me the finger every minute or so, it's quite impressive.

I have not had a change to really tell the difference so i'll ask in here but ... do I loose a lot by using note signals that don't record the key velocity , or is there a way to make up for that with knobs ?

For each note number the effect has knobs to control how much velocity affects a given parameter. So depending on how the velocity amount is set for that parameter, using velocity may have no effect at all, up to a huge effect.

You could program a Finger snapshot such that velocity never affects an effect.

A lot depends on how you're using The Finger. If you're loading it in the free Kore Player, you have no control at all, and must just work with the factory presets as is. If you're using Kore 2 or Reaktor, you can get at the control panel for The Finger and tweak your own patches.

right thanks for the info, that cleares it up indeed

after playing with it some more i can definently see the difference having a proper keyboard makes, when using the nicely balanced presets with the Finger

this is really starting to be a lot more than i thought it was for me. a real third millenium 'instrument' that makes full use of Reaktor technology.

Thanks so much for responding to my post tim.

it was greating meeting you last night! Great show! Come back!

I say just assign a controller to the main parameter knobs. In some ways this is better, it allows for more careful control. though it does take it somewhat out of the instrument category and tilts it toward a normal effect

use dry/wet feature without velocity sesitiv keyboard

    Hello there

I played with the Finger the last day and i am very happy. It works fine for me also in ableton. i think the twister knobs are good also for djing because it will mangle your sound for a while and comes back automaticly to the track.

the thing i was trying to achieve is to build a d/w fader myself, cause i don't use a keyboard for the finger. but still i want to have a kind of d/w knob.
so i took a look in the structure of the reaktor patch and tried to hook up a fader to possibly inputs which deal with velocity but i didn't suceed!

    any ideas?

    greetings

    Hey Rancine
There is a master dry/wet knob on page 2 of Kore but if you are using Reaktor just put a small stereo cross fade on the out put (no need to mess with velocity).

Thx very much - it's a shame that i didn't figure out it myself because it is quite logical. sometimes i get lost in the structure and don't see the simple ways of doing something.

    greetings

Hey people i was hoping someone could please help me. Basically i have no idea how i would use this in fl studio? Please can someone help out a newbie with a detailed guide on how i would use the finger without a midi controller( if possible) as an insert effect in fl studio. Please?

    Finger custom setup question

I'm a complete midi/routing noob. I'm hoping to have a full 49 keys with different Finger effects or variations on it that I choose.

How do I assign a single Finger effect to a single key on my keyboard so that I can create my own effects layout on my keyboard to use while DJing? (in both reaktor and kore2) Or does anyone have any ensambles setup already like this?

Also, I can run my live music (DJ) through reactor and get live Finger effects but it doesnt work in Kore 2 with the same audio in/out setup, is there a trick that i'm missing?

    Thanks in advance!

I absolutely Adore this ens but the two things that are missing that I have a really hard time living without are a "Volume ctrl" and a "real Wet/dry control" , both NON-Global.
Ie: Each key press snap should have its own exclusive wet'dry and volume control.
Some of the effects are way loud and some of the delay based affects make absolutely no sound at all when triggered at max velocity (and pulling the "wet/dry velocity knob" down dosnt work because the affect will default to full velocity anyways).

I am not very fluent with the inner workings of reaktor but if somebody could point me in the right direction on how to achieve this that'd be SO nice.

This works, but for some reason Sonar - or The Finger/Kore - doesn't 'remember' the setting.
When I reload a project done this way I have to reload the settings into Kore/Finger or no sound comes out (I used it on the Master Bus FX).

Any suggestios - or is this a bug in The Finger/Kore (or Sonar)?
