I am running 2012 MBP Retina 15" with Audio 8 DJ & Kontrol S4 & F1. I purchased it recently with OS X Lion 10.7.4 and successfully overrode the Kexts. Have recently upgraded to Traktor Pro 2.5.1 and that seems to be working but I am keen to update to Mountain Lion 10.8 but my question is do i need to reverse the Kext override to utilize USB 3.0? Or does installing the new drivers that Native Instruments emailed around yesterday solve everything alone?

I see that the same question was just asked previously but my question is specific to the Kext's as I am not that tech savvy and not even sure what the Kext override really did in the first place! Thanks in advance.

YES! Beta driver for Audio 8 works. Thank you NI. My laptop is macbook pro 13" mid 2012 and now i don't have to use kext trick anymore. Currently using 10.7.4 but updating to Mountain Lion when possible. I will tell my experiences then.

    *****Macbook Mountain Lion S4 FIX!********

10 minutes before starting my residency last night my S4 decided to glitch out on me. when i checked my system pref and clicked the NI it was showing thousands of USB errors. I found out that the upgrade for lion supporting USB 3 was causing the problem. Needless to say i searched and found this. After that I was up and running in just a few minutes and my S4 worked great for the rest of the night. Not promising it will work for you but I felt the need to share the wealth.
    Cheers everyone,
    BCP
P,s, Like it says below please don't harp on NI, this is an Apple issue. Ni is doing what they can.

Sir, if you install the beta native instruments driver for the S4 you will not need to do this fix, I have it working flawlessly with my S4 on Mountain Lion 10.8 as of today.

It's great to hear this worked and in a club settings!

I don't think we can blame this just on Apple, it's just a incompatibility. NI are going to have to redo their drivers so they are compatible to the new USB3 drivers.

So in the end it might be a tweak on both ends

I'm downloading Mountain Lion as I write this, I'm nervous about installing it after the issues I was having with the s4. It is somewhat reassuring, however, to see that some people have had success with the new Beta drivers. Can anyone else confirm that the Beta drivers are working with USB 3 and 10.8?

jdownesbaird, could you confirm whether ou have a usb3 or usb2 version of the macbook pro in question? they come in different flavors,

Also, could anyone post a screenshot of traktor 2.5 with retina display to get an idea of the screen real estate available?

    thanks.

Confirmed working with beta drivers on: 2012 15" MacBook pro with USB 3.0, OS 10.8, TP 2.5.1 and kontrol s4 (non retina model so I can't provide a screen shot, sorry)

Here is Traktor on the new Retina with the resolution upped to max (as Traktor looks kinda bad at the lower resolution).

Hopefully NI will upload a fix soon.

Can't comment on USB3 vs 2 speeds though. My Hard Drive that runs USB 3.0 seems to be going quite fast though..

EDIT: Ahh.. looks like it's hard to take screenshots on the Retina pro.. doesn't really do it justice.. heh (as it just takes a HUGE picture and doesn't show how it looks scaled down)

Well I just got the new MBP Retina last friday and I started to think after the news of the MBP not working with the current drivers of the Audio 8DJ and even the S4.

I've tried the Audio 8 DJ today and it's just crap, some industrial sounding sounds is what I hear through my speakers (both with the old and the new public beta drivers). Although for now I only tested the Audio 8 DJ when playing music with iTunes I don't think it would change when using Traktor.

I'll will try it in Traktor though but not today. Hopefully NI comes with a descent fix soon.

And will NI bring a new update for Retina support in Traktor soon? It's not ugly but it isn't like it should be either.

As said in my original post, I've tried both the original AND the open Beta. With the same result, and not the result I wanted.

End with that a little other question since this is my first mac, with the Audio 8DJ we get the settings app. But will not open when I click on it, I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) it should open a similar window as the settings on a windows machine. Anyone why this will not open?

    Thanks Boreal for the pic,

I'm really interested in the screen real estate when mixing 4 decks extended with full view of cues for A and B and full view of remix decks. (double click on outer top frame of each deck to change view)
I want to know if retina provides more space for track list than say high rez macbookpro 15inch or 17inch

    much appreciated,

    Chris

Just did some mixing with all four decks in Full mode.. had plenty of space for the browser. Exactly why I bought the Retina screen.. amazing! Looks great.

My Macbook Pro Retina works fine with OSX 10.8, Kontrol S2.

Obviously 3rd party apps like Traktor for example have to be scaled so its looks a little fuzzy but workable I hope NI update with a retina optimized version.

    The 5 scaled resolution options OSX ML gives you are to make the same space as you would on a normal laptop with the following resolutions;
    - 1024x640
    - 1280x800
    - 1440x900
    - 1680x1050
    - 1920x1200 (the option previously found on the 17" Macbook pro)

There is an application that turns the display into pixel-for-pixel 2880x1800 but that is way too small
