    hey guys!

quick question... i've been DJing for about 2 months now. my timecode is about 6 months old ( i wasnt the first owner) but anyways! my question is.. When do i need to buy new timecoded vinyl. and how do i know when i need to buy new stylus's for my cartridges.

is there a way to tell using the scratch panels? any tips? thanks!

the other thing is, could you guys at Ni press some blue, green, or some other crazy color timecoded vinyl?

the only tip i have for you is that it will depend on how much scratching you do. i use cd timecode so I'm not sure on the rest

The easiest way to check if your timecode vinyl and stylus is OK is by looking at the scope view. This is basically a graphical representation of what Traktor is seeing. Also, check the input level under "Input Routing". There are many other tricks you can do... if needle skips too much, check or change it, if you suspect the timecode, flip the vinyl.

so if the scope few is.. a bit sketchy/shakey. its time to replace the timecode. and not the stylus right?

Play some regular vinyl, if it sounds good then your stylus is fine.

Timecode is available in Black, Red and White in the NI Shop.

are there "recommended" or "approved" styli/cartridges for TSP? Or, conversely, "anti-recommendations" for styli one should avoid using?

i'm soon going to make the jump from TS3 and just wanted to make sure my hardware is up to spec.

    thx!

As long as it reads the record accurately and without skipping, you should be good to use it in TSP. I myself use Ortofon Qberts. Others use Stantons, Shures, and I even saw a pic of someone on Tonars.

...any advantage to the concorde cartridge?

    They're sexy?
It's easier to box them up up and take with you if needed. No headshell and wires to deal with when initially setting them up.

I use Shure Whitelabel and like the way they track. I know that they make some stylus specifically for timecode and digital converstion. Not sure if they are a gimmick or not but it would seem to make sense that certain frequencies are more essential for timecode tracking then full audio emulation.

Also, how awesome is it that I said it would be nice if they had clear vinyl and now they do!

I use shure M44-7s. its nice having the cart pre mounted to the headshell, even though i had to tweek them a bit after i got them. I have never been able to make them skip as far as tracking goes. I use about 2 grams of weight on them with no problems.
They also have ultra low record wear.

Keep in mind though, these are the only carts i have ever used. aside from the stantons that came with my decks. but those are a different story

thanks for the input. much appreciated. i have some old stanton carts on my TTs now, so maybe i'll just try those out for starters and if they don't cut it then i'll look to upgrade. the digitrack OMs sound interesting and if the only main difference between them and the concordes is convenience and appearance then i'll pass.

thanks again, and if anyone else has any more thoughts on this topic, please post!
