Hello, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. Can anyone help me out with a problem I'm having? I'm using Logic Pro 7 and Mac Pro (Intel).

I received the EW Choirs, RA, Collosus bundle today and have been trying to install the RA first. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, but I cannot access the Kompakt player or RA instruments from within Logic.

I'm not sure what the problem is, and I didn't really take the time to look through the forum, because I'm not very technical and I don't know what to look for.

If anyone can point me in the right direction...much appreciated.

    Rgds,
    Michael

    more info

just to give some more info....I moved the EW folder with the RA library from the Applications folder to the main HD, so now it is just sitting along side the Applications Folder. Now, i can get the Kompakt player to open without any messages and I have access to the instruments without problems.

Still cannot get them from within Logic though.

Kompakt (and player) isn't UB(Intel), and will never be; result, it will work standalone on Intel under Rosetta, but not in a DAW running as Intel native. Solution, either load the lib's into Kontakt2, which is UB, if you have it or are prepared to purchase it (it's now NI's 'official' successor to Kompakt). Or, wait for new UB players for the various 3rd party lib's, which I believe are due out at some stage; I don't own any 3rd party lib's for Kompakt or Kontakt, so don't know when they are due, or if they will be chargeable, others here will know better; but the home sites of the various lib's will have the relevant info.

    Still confused.....

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (for Native Instruments software)
Win XP, Pentium III/Athlon 1 GHz, 512 MB RAM, DVD drive
    Mac OS X 10.2.6, G4 800 MHz, 512 MB RAM, DVD drive

    RECOMMENDED SYSTEM (for Sound Library)
Win XP, Pentium IV/Athlon 3 GHz, 1 GB RAM, DVD drive
Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, G5 1.8 GHz, 1.0 GB RAM, DVD drive

    SUPPORTED INTERFACES
    WIN: VST™, RTAS™, DXi™, ASIO™, DirectSound™
    MAC: VST™, Audio Units™, Core Audio™, Core MIDI™, RTAS™

These are the requirements on soundsonline.com. In my naivity, I was under the impression that RA would work with my system, since I'm using Mac OS X, Audio Units and Core Audio.

I had no such similar problems installing VSL or Waves IR-1 reverb, so I'm not sure why my Logic Pro program won't recognize the RA instruments.

Do you still think that I am going to need to purchase something extra to make this work? It is getting expensive.

See the prominent info box regarding the forthcoming EW 'PLAY' engine on the RA page:

    http://www.soundsonline.com/Quantum-Leap-RA-pr-EW-163.html

Kompakt player based sample libraries have been in a slightly more difficult position than many, since NI decided not to bother to produce an Intel/UB version of Kompakt. And I'd guess many Kompakt lib owners also already owned Kontakt (which will load Kompakt libraries) and upgraded that to the latest UB version (which was not a free upgrade for all).

Waves produced Intel versions of their plugs fairly promptly, they really had to with their large user base. And I had a quick look at the VSL site, it makes no prominent mention of the issue that I could see, so I'd assume it's been UB for quite some time also.

Just to be clear, Logic is UB; so if you were running it on a PPC Mac, your non UB RA player would function inside it quite happily. And standalone, RA will play on Intel via Apple's Rosetta translation engine; but Rosetta cannot function 'inside' Logic, so unless you forced Logic to run as PPC under Rosetta on your MacPro (there are ways, but it's a non starter really, you lose more than half your CPU's cycles on the translation), non UB plugs can't function inside it.

Waiting for UB plugs for their UB DAWs (or vice versa) has been an issue for all Intel Mac owners since Apple switched; the Kompakt situation is one of the few that remains unresolved.

Well, it's not really that Kompakt is unresolved. It was superceded by Kontakt 2. And it was EastWest who decided not to upgrade all their Kompakt libraries to Kontakt Player 2. In any case, anyone who bought the original EastWest libraries can still use them on any machine that fits the description of the system requirements from the original packaging, and anyone who needs to use them today on an Intel Mac also has the option to crossgrade to Kontakt 2 for a reduced price, and anyone who doesn't need them today but will need them in the future can wait for PLAY editions of those libraries.
