Over the last decade or so, I have progressed from mixing solely on turntables, to CD players, to Timecode systems, and now find myself mixing totally off the computer.

Here is a video giving an overview of how I use it.

Over the next few videos I will start detailing various parts of the setup and how I use it. Enjoy!

That is cool, love the mix. I'm very new to all this and was just wondering if that is a bcr2000 if so where did you get the overlay for it? I'm guessing a bcr2000 gives almost total control and would it be a welcome addition too a vci100?

I've just bought a BCR2000 to go with my VCI100 and help with effects and deck control.
Haven't had the time to set it up properly yet.
Proof - if you would be willing to share your tsi file please post it in the forums.

    thanks

    Yes, that is the BCR.

I am still 'mixing' on the Emptah - so there is 3/4 separate feeds coming out of the Audio8.

The BCR is currently only controlling the effects. I was actually weighing up getting one of the new Korg Nano Controls (for portability) - so at the moment, I am actually only using the top row. The overlay is actually for another project - and is just insulation tape with a marker pen.

I will work on putting up the TSI file, but I might as well create something especially tricky with the set-up first. ;)

I'm using an Edirol FA-66 sound device, so I only have 4 analog lines out.. curently using the Traktor software mixer with 2 channels, and using the VCI mixer section. A stereo pair comes out the front of the FA-66 for my phones, and another set out the back I use for my main output.
I want bring in decks 3 & 4, and had intended setting up the BCR as a rotary-style mixer - use the first 4 columns of controls as a standard mixer setup but with the rotaries at the top as my levels and the 3 knobs below for EQ. The push buttons for cue & preview. The next block of controls on the BCR will be for effects and filters. I'll upload it when I have something useful. Nice sound in your YouTube vid... loop-based set construction is no doubt the future (and present) of modern DJ'ing. I played a set at a valentines party this past weekend, and there were 3 other DJs on the night all using Traktor apart from my self. Getting a laptop set up behind the decks almost seems the norm now...

Yeah - it is making it more and more a challenge to fit everything in and having to rewire it mid set.

Might I suggest clubs start looking to put in patch bays?

    :)

Great idea... the guy who played before me was jamming on a sampler, groovebox of some sort, a Kaoss pad, and a midi guitar. We were hooked into a 4-channel mixer, and it was a complete mess of cables, with some of the CD player now disconnected too.
I was glad to only need 1 power point and 1 RCA pair on the mixer to get set up.

Yeah, and I believe it will happen more and more too.

Either a patch bay, or everyone taking on NI's cable system as a standard... :D
