    Hello,

This is my first message to this forum, so hello all.

I've just bought an audio kontrol 1 unit and have the same problems that other users. When I open Cubase VST and with Cubase SX3 too, the system makes some noises and crackles and the sound it is not clean.
I've read other posts to this forum but I don't understand yet which is the cause of this problem and its solution.
I've tried to update firmware but the problem is still there.
The configuration is set to 44000 and "medium latency".

So please, what should I do in my system to avoid these noises?

    Thank you,
    regards.

First of all try to set the sampling frequency to 48ooo with the audio control 1 panel soft. then try 2ms usb, 5-1o ms latency.
(if youre using a pc - if youre using a mac you cant set usb buffer latency)

then start cubase. check the project settings. they should be set to 48000 and 24 bit.

    does it work proper then?

found out that it works better on 48kHz on my config.
and it works only 24bit at the moment -> thats what we found out using the forum - not that NI or the support told us...

Thank you Toneup, I will try this settings this night and I will tell you how about.

I didn't know that project options in Cubase. Please, which option menu does it got?

I think it is incredible that a sound solution like Audiokontrol, it makes the sound bad. A part of me think that my system could have something wrong, but it seems reading your posts, that the problem is the Audiokontrol solution, its incredible.

    Thank you.

Well, I've tried that and it is not the solution. It sounds the same noises.
I've tried all the sampling rates and bits formats. It doesn't work for me.

    Some suggestions?

    Thank you.

Well, I've found something, change the computer. I've tested with a Dell Laptop and it works.

So, the conclusion is, lets take our USB based solution and throw it to the trashcan.

Sell the Audio Kontrol 1 and get something decent. NI are money grabbing bastards.

it can also be a power consumption problem ( i guess you have the probs on a laptop). try connecting via a pcmcia usb interace card with the possibility to connect a ac/dc adapter (wall-wart ;-) ). the power supply of the lap might be too weak. if the ak1 doesnt get enough power, problems like yours could be the result. try also to set the power setting of the lap to "desktop" in windows xp control panel.

and the it could be a problem with the chipset controlling the usb ports of your lap. again a pcmcia usb2 card could solve the prob.

rebel_es : In order to make AK1 work with Cubase, you have to change the sampling frequency of all your Cubase's projects to 48Khz.

Setting the sampling rate under the AK1 soft panel alone will not solve your problem.

    Hello,

I've checked on a desktop computer and on a laptop.
    Both of them with USB2.0

It works on the laptop (a Dell Inspiron 9200). It doesn't work on the desktop computer. Both machines got 512RAM

In the desktop computer I've tried 48000Hz and 24bit in Cubase SX3 and in the AKControl options (so, the same options are indicated to work between card controller and Cubase). Medium latency and all posibilities have been tested for the desktop computer.

So, it seems to be something in the USB -->hardware<-- controller of the desktop CPU. I don't know if it is something due to power or not, because I've detected that when I move the USB mouse to open Cubase Menus, sometimes crackles appears, so in my opinion the AK it is not designed to accept all market possibilities. But it is designed in Gernamy... ummm

So, my conclusion is that the technical specificacions when one goes to buy AK control are not enough. It is not enough when saying that your computer need to have 512RAM, Pentium, XP SO and USB2.0. There is something more, and as you can see for the posts, it could be that too much computers will have the same problems.
Perhaps if I take away the mouse, my DVD units... If I swith off the oven...

So, buying this solution is a risk for the user.
What if I buy other computer next month or year? will this AK unit work on it?

Hmmm.. I have read of a similar problem in another thread, regarding USB-Audiointerfaces in general.
Have you tried a usb hub port with its own powersupply? maybe that could solve your problem!! You can get one for about 15 Euros (gives you like 4 new usb inputs with enough power).

    I mean something like this;
    http://www3.hardwareversand.de/8VWWN4Ri050Drs/1/articledetail.jsp?aid=3406&agid=815&ref=27
Or, so I was told in the other forum, look for "D-Link Hub" or "Belkin Hub"

toneup; are you really saying that AK1 only works fine with 48.0 kHz?? If that's true, that sucks!

See my post (scroll down, it's the latest at the moment) on the "latency-settings"-thread:
    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum_us/showthread.php?t=45802

I'd be really really greatful for a quick answer, as I was planning to buy the AK1 tomorrow..

    Best wishes,
    Human

I cant say that in general - on my laptop

(gericom 1st supersonic pcie, amd turion64, 1gig ram, ATI mobility Radeon X600, KORE, Cubase SX3, Cubase 4, NI Komplete 4, Korg Legacy Collection, Hartmann Neuron VS, Steinberg the Grand, Groove Agent2, Virual Guitar 2 (all original Soft - that means 1 hub with many Dongels and Controllers, 1 powered PCMCIA belkin USB2 POWERED card - where the ak1 is plugged..)

the only config without crackles is 48khz 2ms usb latency 6-10ms "music" latency.

    with 44khz always crackles

situation at the moment - the support knows my problems, lets see if they can fix it with software updates.

ahh - i forgot to say - i tried it also on one of my studio pc`s (intel core2 duo) where i normally use a focusrite interface, there it works fine in 44.1 and 48 and 96 (these i tried). so it depends to the machine config.

but the focusrite FW interface works with NO probs om my Lap...with 44.1, 48, 96

Just got a FA66 and it works a treat and sounds great. And it doesn't crackle, pop and cut out! The AK1 sucks.

I just want to mention that as far as I'm concerned I got rid of drop-outs by disabling the DVD drive, not the network card nor other devices.

(Dell Precision M90, 2.16 Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, HDD7200rpm, Display Nvidia QuadroFX 1500M chosen to minimize the overall consumption, DVD drive: TSST TS-L632D)
