I have recently found the gem that is guitar rig. At the minute my guitar is plugged into a Behringer USB Interface UC6102 and i am listening to it thru my headphones.
I want to take it to the next level and buy a speaker to play the sound thru. I am extremely interested in buying the Kontrol 3 pedal.
I just want to get your advice before i buy

If i buy the Kontrol Pedal, i plug my guitar in and pc into it. Then i need to purchase a speaker, obviously it would be best to buy a set as the output is stereo but at the minute i am just thinking of buying one speaker. Obviously this speaker has to be a powered speaker?

So have i got everything right so far, there is no need for a DI box etc ?

So what kind of speaker should i be looking for, should it be something like a powered monitor speaker, a Disco speaker ? i have had peavey speakers in a PA when i was in a band which were amazing quality. What do u think?

Thx for your advice and help

    Chris

My advice is DON'T BUY! Don't you know this company makes sofware/hardware for Windows that won't install or work unless you're machine is ancient junk but DON'T EXPECT they're stuff to work on a modern machine... all they seem to care about is developing & pushing their new product but their existing customers, some waiting over a year now, are forced to either install an old operating system unable to take advantage of your machines abilities or sit & wait around forever for some VAPORWARE DRIVERS supposedly in development. Try Line 6... at least they seem to be able to program a few lousy drivers in a timely fashion. THIS COMPANY WON'T CARE DICK ABOUT YOU! RUN AWAY!

...don't know what that was about.

To answer your questions: yes, RK3 is a sound card that functions just like any other floor processor. You do need a powered speaker. To take advantage of guitar rig's amp simulations you want a full range speaker - like a PA or keyboard amp. I highly recommend getting a stereo rig, however. Jbl eons are fine, mackie is better, I have a B-52 Matrix system that I like, I'm also have a Roland KB350 amp that sounds decent. peavey also makes quality and affordable amps/speakers.

Just another person who didn't do the research on x64 driver compatibility and then decides that it's not his fault...

That's the one caveat about RK at the present; x64 drivers are still in beta. They're coming, though:

Yep- if you want the best sound quality, good full range speakers are a must. I use an ancient pair of powered Yamahas with a 15" and a horn; I've had them for 30 years or so.

I agree with the full range speakers or keyboard amp.
I had trouble with GR3 with latency and put info on this forum and got an answer for a driver and now I am one happy camper. Alot of individuals on this forum know alot and are willing to help. Good Luck

i have behringer truths 2031a as these are better value than mackie, jbl - well cheaper...... but they sound nice in stereo for a starter setup.
these are far better in my opinion than normal guitar amps.

PS to mr grumpy - check out the line6 forums and see how much they complain about their products! i just sold my x3 live GRIG much much better for me:D

For home, I have some old Altec Lansing Multimedia Gaming speakers I got maybe 10 years ago that I plug into the headphone jack using a 1/4" adapter thingy. It has a subwoofer too, and sounds generally pretty good. I guess the point is you don't need to drop $200/each for studio quality monitors, but your rig will sound better if you do. Your mileage may vary.

I've yet to play live, but for testing I run it into the CD in of my Fender Rumble 100 Bass amp (pretty flat freq response) and it gets pretty loud.

<rant>PPS to grumpy grumps - Chalk me up as another former Line6 user who got tired of buggy software, and honestly, crabby users on the forums.</rant>

That sounds like a powered subwoofer instead of a full range cabinet.

ok, my mistake, didnt realise it was a sub, so something like a peavey pro 12P would be ideal, is there much difference in quality between a keyboard amp and the like of that Peavey?

    cheers

If you have a hifi (stereo system) with an "aux" input (most do have one), you can get a lead that connects it to your headphone socket. Then you can play as loud as your hifi can go and it sounds fantastic. I got an old Yamaha hifi amp with Sony hifi speakers from a junk shop for £20. and it sounds perfect.

It sounds like you are just starting out, so take your time in researching equipment that will be kind to your pocket, but more important give you the best sound, stereo is really the only way forward, don’t forget that the controller is a high quality sound card and so like me you can use it with all of your music production software, I would buy the GR controller, use your headphones with it, and save as much money as you can to buy good quality monitors.
