    Hi all,

So far I'm using a BCD3000 as a midi controller, which is OK, it's not amazing but as a beginners midi controller it does the job. I know that ideally if I manage to make any money DJing I'd like to end up with a xone 3D or something awesome like that, but for now obviously I'm just looking for "the next step up" from a BCD3000.

I looked at the Hercules RMX or the Numark Omni Control, but to be honest they don't really look like enough of a step up if anything, they have increased build quality of course, but not a huge amount more knobs and buttons and so on to increase actual functionality.

Just wondering if anyone had any tips from their own experiences. I have an Audio Kontrol 1 sound card so I'm not bothered whether or not the next controller has its own onboard sound.

    Cheers in advance

I'm just starting looking for "the next step up" from a BCD3000 as well.
The only thing is, I would need it to also be a soundcard for the windows XP laptop as well.

I just moved from the bcd 3000 to a vci 100 if your good with midi you can set it up to do some crazy things, check out Ean goldens www.djtechtools.com this is a hive of info for the vci and check out the way he sets it up, the next step up for me is a 4d

whoa sweet, thanks for the link! After checking his stuff out I learned all about midi modifiers in traktor, how did I live without them! Got a whole new load of functionality out of my bcd now I can control both effects banks with the same 4 knobs and buttons. Guess I can now put off upgrading to a total control or some such until I actually have money. ^^

I've searched the site for "modifiers" but not any info except they exist
    I've found them in traktor.
    any link?
    so what do they do?
what have you done with them?

Well you can map a button to set a modifier to between 0 and 7 (0 is the default), and then create a mapping for a midi button which occurs only when say modifier 1 (M1) is 1, and a different command mapped to the same button for when modifier 1 is 2, so effectively you can have a bunch of "presets" if you will.

I was thinking of making a investment in an Allan&Heath xone 4D
and also looking to enhance the existing setup.
I currently have traktor3 (full) and pro as a demo.

i don't use the following buttons and was wondering what i could use them for, to add some more creativity.
they are the same for each deck of the BCD
    bend up, bend down
    search left, search right.
    scratch buttons
    set cue
    set loop
    reloop

I use the scratch buttons for spinback in Traktor 3:

and i use the search left/right buttons to half/double my active loop size:

Well it really depends on what you would like to be able to do but can't currently. The scratch buttons are useful for anything you might toggle (as they have LEDs) to I use mine for cueing effects. Can't really think of anything else off the top of my head...

As for the Xone 4D, I really wish I had the money as that thing is my dream controller. I'm thinking about getting an xponent as my next controller, and the sort of middle ground between a bcd and a xone (as there is quite a gap!).
