    Hello...

I have been mixing with out software for years... but its time to change :) I've been doing my homework on how to set up my new equipment

    My Set Up:
    Traktor Pro
    CDJ-400 X2
    DDM4000
    Hercules MK2 X2

im trying to get all this equipment working together with no limitations, quick examples...

    * CDJ 400's - Control Decks A&B (HID/connected to PC) dont care about timecode unless neeeded.
    * Hercules MK2 - Controls Decks C&D
    * Hercules MK2 - Mapped to control other software functions... not sure what yet.
    * DDM4000 - External mixer - just got it! would like to control the effects in side
traktor as well as the ones in the mixer... i have read its possible.

1, Do i need to buy NI uadio2,4,8 sound cards, or a generic one will do... if so please advice

2, i would love suggestion on what would it be the best way to connect all this together:eek:

    Thanks.!

If you're going to use your CDJ-400s to control Traktor via HID, then you don't need the Audoi4/Audio8. A regular soundcard will do.

I've used and absolutely loved the Edirol FA-101. If you've got a few more bucks, the Motu Ultralite is pretty robust and worth a look. Presonus Firebox, M-Audio 1814, Maya44, the list goes on and on. Many of our members post their setups in their signatures, you can see the variety and from their posts note how successful they've been using that setup.

if i buy any of these sound cards i can conntect in my 2 cdj 400 to control deck A&B and my kontrol KX1 to control C&D and mixing options as well as my DDM 4000 as external mixer mode?

so in audio set up i will choose my sound card and in output routing...
channel 1 and 2 cdj 400 not in timecode... but hid mode
    channed 3 and 4 my kx1

    thanks

Yes, but remember that if you use external mixer mode, you won't be able to use the internal Traktor volume faders - you HAVE to use the ones on the DDM4000.

Yup sounds about right. Have fun.

I agree here Telly, Ultralight is great, I use now a Digi003 as my deck 3 and 4 out and the others doing other things... you just need to make sure the out puts of any chosen cards are at -10 not +4 to go into DJ mixers...

Remember beatgital that the CDJs ARE sound cards also tho, there is a stereo in each so for 2 deck mode you need...nothing :) You just require a further 2 stereo outs on some interface for decks 3 and 4, be very careful using hubs tho, can cause serious grief! Check out youtube for CDJ 400 and TP

    thanks for the reply...
advice... if im going to spend 300-450 in a decent audio interface, is in it just better to buy audio8 and go timecode?
and that should take care of the audio and the 4 decks.. which is what i want the most.
what you guys like better timecode or hid?

HID anyday, time code is clunky and pointless unless it's vinyl and for scratch IMO

I mix timecode and MIDI/HID pretty successfully myself. I prefer timecode as I've been using vinyl since I started back in the mid-90s but the Kontrol X1 and the MIDI out of my Korg make it very easy not to have to lug giant decks to gigs.

Where the HID makes things very instantaneous and easy to do a lot at once, I prefer the tactile feel of timecode vinyl. I'm with Saintproducer on one thing - I don't find timecode CD usable in the least. Clunky is an understatement, at least in the way that I spin my music.
