Native Instruments has totally dropped the ball with Mac OS Catalina. Most other music app vendors work totally OK with Catalina. Not NI. Heads must roll at NI over this debacle. Or they can borrow my beta license to Mac OS!!!!!

Most stuff actually seems to work ok. I’m prepared to give them another couple of weeks before I start to rage. And I definitely wouldn’t blame the individuals given the massive redundancies inflicted on the workforce

I’d say more like Apple dropped the ball. Loads of stuff in many industries stopped working. Apple doesn’t care much for making their OS compatible with things.

To be fair, they have signalled for a long time that they were going to drop 32bit support and this is something I fully support. It’s more an issue of the industry not fully prioritising the Mac platform

Yes, I did write a very frustrated first-post. I'm glad to say, that as of today, 3 weeks after the launch of Catalina, my NI Ultimate 11 is once again totally functional. Nice, at last. Thank you NI for this final effort.

On the other hand... all my roli stuff remains non functional. Haven’t tried cypher 2 yet but they’re still advising not to upgrade.

Apple prioritizes modern capabilities over software retro compatibility, if bringing some new technology/feature requires breaking older stuff they dont care and just do it, often... it falls on the developers to update their applications, this is not exclusive to NI, when things break due to OS updates most Audio companies take a while to test and update. I have had to wait a long time for Serato, Cubase, Live, a ton of apps... a lot of companies are much slower than NI TBF. Catalina went quite smoothly for me, updated day one, mostly everything works some other OS versions were much more problematic. If OS updates breaking things is new to you then you're a new macOS user.

Why companies dont start working while new OS versions are in beta I dont know, but i think it's because Apple constantly changes stuff during the betas so waiting for the final release is a safer approach.

As Apple users, it's our responsibility not to update until everything we use is confirmed to be working, users who dont like this are better off switching to Windows. I actually like Apple's boldness in this regard, they force the industry to move forward to new standards like USB-C for example, they also just killed 32bit completely which Is highly inefficient, etc... but beeing a first adopter has it's disadvantages too like dealing with dongles, beeing careful with updates, etc...

To be somewhat fair to Apple they have told developers exclusive 64 bit support was the end goal since late 2013.
It's been 6 years companies had to transition to 64 bit support.
Not saying Apple are not assholes sometimes (10.8 and 10.13 updates caused my last job multiple days of downtime) but this isn't one of those times.
