    X1 control

Wondering if it will b possible to do this. I want to use the x1 transport controls to control deck c & d only. Deck a and b I control thru tomecode. I read that these units use a higher resolution protocol than midi so I'm curious that if I were to change the mappings if that would mean the transport controls would have 2 b midi mapped? Basically I want to use the controller as is, except direct any transport controls to decks c& d. Furthermore I don't want to lose the high res connectivity. Is this possible?

I am actually pretty excite to see the x1 in person.

I personally own a 1d and it has been good and a total nightmare at the same time.
The reason I do not like the 1d is because it does not work on a hub unless you do via midi through the audio 8.

Also i have connect the 1d directly and through the audio 8 via midi and i get quite a few glitches. 3 total to be exact.

Glitch from the jog wheel it is not assigned and it makes my track skip "maybe once or twice in a 2-4 hour set" If you touch it sometimes doesnt do anything since it is not assinged, but at times this still occurs and no one knows why. Allen and heath says no midi controller is perfect. LOL

My third push button from left to right has gone bad " bought this the first week of september 09". And no its not from wear and tear because I don't play alot and i take top care of my equipment. Then it got repaired under warranty and now the signals are intermitted and semi wrong, and the warranty people they recomend cant fix complicated issues. Long story short i need to to send this one back next week and they will send a replacement unit.

I have heard nothing but good things about the 1d, but i have had the best and worse moment with it. I want to believe that its a bad unit. If none of this happened I think this would be a great robust controller and would not change it for the world. I will see how my new controller arrives.

I still see lots of people moving to the x1, i know i am looking forward to trying one due to it straight forward appearance and simplicity like the 1d.

I think these are much better than anything fader fox has to offer for there expensive price.

Sorry, but I think that isn't forward thinking at all. It would have been better when you could connect two X1s and without use of an extra usb-hub..

You asked how it would work So I'm telling how it works, simple as that We can sit here and discuss what we would like to have seen all day, but it does not change the details in what I have described is the implementation reality. Adding and additional USB2.0 hub into the device raises cost and provides limited extra functionality and adds a significant amount of additional technical responsibility onto the product. Personally I think the right choice was made in the design.

Just got my X1 yesterday and have spent the last day getting to know my new toy... I haven't used the Xone but seriously this controller is awesome!

I use 2 Tech 1200s and so for me a controller is more for effects/loops, etc..
I was using a remote 25SL before which was alright, but if you're like me (and I know that a lot of you are) then you're more wanting to just play than sit down and take the time to program all of your loop/cue/effects setups...

The X1 is awesome in that it's really a plug and play. I upgraded traktor and plugged it in and instantly was jamming on it! I also love that the bottom 8 are assignable cue points and it integrates perfectly with my turntables, so I can remix songs and jump to points while still using the decks as my method of mixing and playback.

    bottom line,
    Hassle-free functionality for me!

I was so into buying this one when it's out. But when reading that you need two to control deck C and D, i will try too find another controller that is flat. 1D is too big.

Wait, so u need 2 to control decks c & d? Why cAn't you just change the mapping like I said above. Can someone who hAs used (or has official knowledge of) the x1 help me out with my original question? Cheers!

Not True. The unit has a shift button specifically to allow this kind of switching. That switching support is built into the app to where shift can work in latch or just in hold mode. There is also the ability to use native command mode and also MIDI mode. Pressing Shift and Hotcue changes modes. You can easily use one controller for all four decks and switch banks either as A/B & C/D or A/C & B/D.

2 Controller would be VERY VERY Nice but its NOT a requirement to control 4 Decks.

Sorry. I was to quick with my reply. :)

Now I've read this on http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-kontrol-x1/?page=1206

"The controller is pre-mapped by the makers of TRAKTOR, with the option to freely customize any individual part. Tweak the defaults or reconfigure the mapping entirely to your preferred workflow. Two controller overlays for alternative mappings / assignments are already included: one with the pre-configured mappings for Serato Scratch Live™, one blank overlay for marking your own assignments."

What I can understand from this, you will be able too controll two decks with timecode and the other two (C & D) with X1? If yes, I think i'm on the track for it again ;)

You can control 2 or 4 decks with the X1 its entirely flexible.

Sorry if this is a dumb question Phil, but if u change the default mappings do u lose out on the hi res protocol that the x1 communicates in?

I'm trying to get my head around this, I think this gonna be an excellant piece of kit but as regards controlling 4 decks with a single x1, to control the second set of decks say c & d you would have to use the shift function to access the controls for c & d, which means you lose the normal functions that the shift gives you over a & b

    Have i got this right?
Also you would have to map the shift functions yourself to control c & d as these are normally reserved for a & b, can this be done with HID or would this have to be done in midi?

Nope Not a dumb question at all, a good one in fact. Traktor provides 2 modes of programming control, Native Command mode and Midi Mode in both cases you have a control set you can customize. In native mode the commands are easily recognized and provide a quicker easier mapping experience that MIDI mode but both do the same things. Its the same programming process in either mode, the controls commands are just easier to recognize in Native Mode.

I maybe wrong on this but I don't think that the controls on the X1 actually need or do high res i.e. 14 bit, BUT the controls are high quality andVERY precise! They may do HID instead of just MIDI but that does not necessarily imply High Res.

Pressing HotCue and Shift Toggles you into Midi Mode where you could map the second pair of decks, Thats one way to achieve this. You definitely would not want to loose the shift functionality so in answer to your last question I believe done in MIDI is correct. Native Command Mode and MIDI Mode are DIRECTLY comparable in terms of functionality.
