Currently updating now, but I noticed the Z1 was not on the list of drivers included in said update.

Let me try to anser your questions.

    1. There is no Z1 driver for Mac. The audio interface is class compliant.

    2. In order to use any NI hardware in MIDI mode, you need to have our Controller Editor (CE) software installed (which is part of the Traktor installation). The CE comes with a background service which takes care of all communication matters between your NI controller and your MIDI-capable targets. CE version 1.5.5 includes support for Traktor Kontrol Z1 and is part of the Traktor 2.6.2 Update. Both CE 1.5.5 and Traktor 2.6.2 require OS X 10.7 or later.

The corresponding system requirements can be found here: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/traktor/dj-mixer/traktor-kontrol-z1/specifications/

Okay thanks for your answer. So it will be never ever running on Snow Leopard, right? So I can send my Z1 directly back when it arrives tomorrow, right?

(An OSX Update is no option for me - Mountain Lion dosnt supports my Macbook and Lion isnt available anymore)

I'd quite like a definitive answer on rakim77's question too. Is there any prospect of the Z1 ever running on Snow Leopard? (other than just as a basic audio interface)

Doubtful because Controller Editor 1.5.5 is not compatible with 10.6, only 10.7 an above.

You also need the Z1 panel in preferences to enable Midi Mode.

Well the CMD MM1 is a good mixer. There's a lot of potential in it and the Traktor mapping is good. Plus its a USB hub which is uber-cool. I like mine with the PL-1.

Wish the Z1 had a usb port for an X1 or F1.

Would it really be that hard for NI to produce a standalone driver that would be more backwards compatible? After all, they have them for all the other Traktor gear, including the Z2 (and the Z1 is surely kind of a less-complicated version of that)?

so, for a 2008 mac owner it goes down to installing lion, possibly the worst mac os in the last 10 years (and in the process reinstalling everything), or buying a new mac? way to go native instruments, i admire your professionality
