It would appear from reading this forum that many users are expieriencing CPU over loads when releasing sustain pedals etc. this seems to be a problem that is combined with a continuous build up of CPU usage throughout a song meaning that as a song progresses the CPU load keeps creeping up as if previous notes that have been played are not being released from some mysterious internal buffer, and each time the sustain pedal is released and release samples are triggered it dramatically worsens the situation until the samples start skipping and cutting out and the buffers seem to empty themselves.

I know nothing about how kontact is programmed and would like to have a clear response from NI on exactly what is happening so we can at least know what the short comings of Kontact as a product are and have some way of working around them.

I think I speak on behalf on many frustrated users of Kontact.

I would just chuck it in the trash, but the Steinway samples sound fantastic and would kill to get them operating smoothly.

I'm Looking forward to an informative response from someone at NI who uses this product.

    Cheers

    Paul (and many other users)

(before you ask I have a 1.8Ghz dual processer G5 with 2GB ram and protools HD Accel...but I know this problem has been well documented on many other system combinations)

    Hi,

I have the same issues with a 1.25 GHZ processor and 1GB of ram.
I guess my only having 1 GB of ram or 1.25 GHZ processor is not the issue.

    Hi
The same song with Kontakt 2 instead of Kontakt 1.53 puts 33 % more load on my G5 2x2.
The only advantage is that it is loading faster !

Hope that NI can fix this !

Thanks a lot to Haydn for the information on NS forum.

One more time, Michael Post shows an impressive support capability. I will test the new nki's asap and put my results on the forum.

What do i do with it?

I downloaded what they have there to download... a folder with:

    - Steinway D new convolution.nki
    - Steinway D Symp res OLIVIER FRAPPIER.nki
    - Sympathetic Resonance Scripts.txt

I'm just not sure what to DO with those files?
    Still pretty new to this...

    Hello

Basically, you put the nki files in the same folders where you find previously existing steinway nki programs, so they can find the samples.

I didn't test it, but as I understand the txt sxcript file, it can be used on whatever piano program you own. You could put it in the default script directory of K2. The script analyses currently played notes, computes the overtones resulting from those notes and triggers some additional notes to emulate those overtones. You can adjust the amount for each overtone.

The drawback is that such a script is potentially computer intensive.

    Hope that helps.
