@PFogg: I'm glad for you, but when I started this post, my goal was NOT to shed hundreds of $$ to be able to use a FREEBIE.
I am just starting in the wonderful world of synth and VST, and I am in the learning process.

I managed to put my hand on some good (so it seems) freebies, but they switch to DEMO mode in a matter of minutes. No time to try out much with them. The tools I found are free, so why should I spend many $$ (or Euros, whatever) to be able to use free stuff.

I already sent some technical data (through a zip file) to Native Instruments, and am waiting for their reply.
I'll take it from there, and see what comes out of it.

That is very weird. Bravura definitely works as a Kontakt Player library, UNLESS you purchased individual instruments/ensembles, then it needs full Kontakt. On the other hand, if you purchased individual stuff, it wouldn't even show in Service Center, or Libraries tab in Kontakt...

This is how it works with Kontakt. Freebie stuff for Kontakt absolutely demands the full version of Kontakt, NOT the free player (will run in demo mode there). Except in the rare case of Sennheiser Drum'mica, which is a free Kontakt Player library.

That's just how it is - the free Kontakt Player can work without demo timeouts only with licensed Kontakt Player libraries, and the usual freebies you find for Kontakt are NOT such libraries.

Aaaaaaargh! Now I've downloaded full Kontakt the instruments I was using quite happily before on free Kontakt player don't fully load anymore (Cinematic Studio Strings mainly) - it either says I need to purge some samples or, more often, I just get that frustrating 'we're about to crash soldier' message and then it does indeed crash. I haven't been able to do anything since I got the full Kontakt player, so effectively I've paid for something to make everything work less well. I've been trying to find an answer online (as ever), but no joy - could it be something to do with 32 or 64 bit? I don't really understand the difference or how that might affect my memory.
Any ideas? Just to remind you, I'm on a Mac, OS X 10.8.5 with 24 GB ram, and using Logic 8.

    Thank you!

Is there any way I can ditch the full version of Kontakt and go back to the free version? Then at least I could get some stuff done.

Something got seriously screwed with your Kontakt install, methinks...

Ha ha, yes, maybe, but here's the thing - I've been working on Mac 10.8.5 and in Logic 8 because that's what I've been used to, but I do have Mac El Capitan and Logic X on an external hard drive, and I've just tried out all this on that set-up and everything seems to be working fine, everything loads, everything plays, no problems at all - so it looks like I'm just going to have to drag myself kicking and screaming out of my Logic 8 comfort zone and embrace progress! It's a little frustrating, but I'm pleased that it's all working on at least one system so I can get on with stuff, even if it takes me a while to find where everything is on the new Logic window... but I'll get there!

    Thanks for your replies.
